I Want To Know About Graduate Online Education Course

Q: I am searching for a comprehensive textbook to support a graduate level course that is entitled "Technology in Distance Education". I am looking for a text that covers the spectrum of asynchronous and synchronous technologies, one that is directed at a broad variety of professionals (i.e. Higher Educ., Training, and K-12), and one that is clearly at the Graduate level. This course will be followed by specific courses in Synchronous and Asynchronous technologies, which will go into greater depth and contain more technical detail. I would appreciate any references that would support the more general course "Technology in D.E." Who can give me some informations about this ?

A:Good to hear from you! Keeping busy?? I'm looking forward to a 12 month sabbatical starting in July. Let me know if you have some exciting short term project that could use someone like me to help out. As for the text question, I' like Bates' books - his early one

A: W. Bates "Technology: Open Learning and Distance Education" Routledge: London, 1995 is a bit dated now, but I like the focus on multiple criteria ACTIONS for evaluating and comparing techniques. His new book on managing is also good, but less techie and more administration orientated, so may be less useful for the purposes you list below. I like Bates new book: Managing Technological Change: Strategies for College and University Leaders. It is not just focused on Distance Education, but looks at the issues that face all of us who wokr with Technology in a Higher Ed setting. I would choose it for a DE class
