Distance Learning Masters In Sociology???
Q: Does anyone know of a regionally accredited college or university offering a Masters degree in Sociology, or that is considering developing one? Please email me directly.
A: Regardless of what the dwellers in Ivory Towers would say, there's a number of respected educational institutes offering online degrees. Take a look at: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/97/0616/5912084a.htm Many people with terminal MAs work at community colleges. And the MSW is no longer a terminal degree there either, since for an academic job at the college level you need a DSW or a PhD in social work. Distance learning is being set up now that the WWW is active. One group doing so on the West coast will be a group of 16 colleges pooling resources. Just wait: education is changing fast. While I think it is clear that one needs a phd for most any academic job these days, I am struck by the fact that people automatically assumed that a job in academia is the only place for an advanced degree in sociology. Fields from journalism to advertising/market research, training companies etc., are all possibilities. Or create your own space.
