Community College

The community college is a college tending to the educational needs of the local community. These are, in common language, junior colleges or two-year colleges. The community college is in close proximity to the main thoroughfares for the students to commute easily. The main point of difference between these and the normal colleges is that these do not offer you the facility of hostels. Therefore, you cannot stay at the colleges. Most of the students of the community college live in close proximity and attend the classes either in the morning, in the evening or in the weekends whenever they are free. These are government run colleges and offer education to all at par. These colleges in large offer the first two years of the degree course and you can then transfer the credits to your regular college. Some of the courses on offer are in relation to your job acquiring skills or for technical skills. In short, you may acquire vocational skills. The community college is of great interest to the international students mainly because they get exposure to the foreign universities through these colleges. Besides, they can also transfer the credits from this course to continue at their university course. The certificate courses in technical fields are for lesser durations, which also attract these students in to their fold. Other than these, you can enroll at the community college to develop your special skills and hobbies. There is no restriction on your age or sex. The basic requirement for entry into these colleges is fluency in English language, both the written and the spoken word, and a minimum knowledge of mathematics. International students should be able to show enough financial proof to fund their stay in the foreign land. The community college offers a very good platform for the students to adapt themselves to the way of life in university. They are in fact the training ground for your further study and living in the university.
