Bachelor Degree Master Online, Idea For A New Online Masters

Q: I would like to help establish a new, online master's degree in education, concentrating on the integration of Mathematics Education, Science Education, and Technology Education. It would be aimed at individuals who have a bachelor's degree in any of these subjects, and who are certified teachers. It would allow the student to concentrate somewhat in their area, but also to examine in depth the integration of these three disciplines. Professional education coursework may well be added to this trivium. So far, I have received favorable responses from administrators at the university where I teach. But a program like this might be best if it is not confined to a single university, and instead encompasses courses from a number of institutions. My department currently offers bachelor's and master's degrees in Technology Education. If any of you is a professor, teacher, or administrator who would be interested in collaborating on a project like this, please send me a note. I would also appreciate other comments and suggestions from all.

A:Although I can't help you, I do want to commend you for trying to offer something different in the d.e. field. One more MBA program and I think I'll scream. If your school is willing to market the program, then I'm sure that it will be successful. You might try to get ACE endorsement on your classes for Graduate level degree (I dont know if they endorse beyond first-degree classes for credits. After that, administration of classes can be structured into any format i.e online, exam, franchise etc.. Start by having a look at the offering from the Institute of Educational Technology at the OU . . . their MA in Open and Distance Education is into its thrrd year now. http://iet.open.ac.uk/ Teaching Technology is not slated to go online. It is an undergraduate teaching methods class for technology education majors. Some class components can be found online at: http://www.bsu.edu/classes/flowers2/ITEDU395/395.htm There is even an online lesson on writing design briefs at: http://www.bsu.edu/classes/flowers2/ITEDU395/8desbri.htm But I am working on a new online course on Using and Assessing Technology. It is a graduate course, and will be taught in the Fall of 2000. The course info should be online by April, 2000.
