Your credit report contains your full name, address, social security number, birth date; your current credit accounts with your balance and limits, and your history of paying them on time. A credit reporting agency keeps track of your credit score which is what loan officers and other credit lenders look at when considering you for credit. Taking out a loan for a house or car can be a very challenging ordeal if your credit isn't up to par. Some of the top credits reporting agencies are Equifax, Experian, and Transunion. These companies are contacted when you fill out a credit card application. When a credit card company views what is in your credit report, it does not automatically guarantee that you will be approved or denied. The same applies if you are applying for insurance, an apartment, employment, or even a loan at your local bank. There is plenty of credit reporting agencies that can be found online where you can view your credit history. Most of the time it requires you to pay a small fee to view it or you can search for free credit reporting agencies. Starting on December 1, 2004, the fair credit reporting act (FCRA) allows you to get one free comprehensive disclosure of all of your information in your credit file. If you call a credit reporting agencies toll free number, you can receive a total review of your credit history though the mail after paying them a small fee. Most companies will not grant you credit without knowing your financial history. It is good to check your financial history yearly, incase someone has been using your information for their own purposes, which may ruin your good standing credit rating.
