Car Financing Bad Credit Some Information About It

Q: I was recently the victim of a scam at a local car dealership. Thank gawd I came out relatively unscathed. My next step is to put the past behind me and go to a different car dealer to try to get a new (or newer) car. One lesson I learned from this ordeal is that it is safer to secure financing through a bank or finance company BEFORE walking into the car dealership. The problem is, I have a past bankruptcy. I need to find a finance company that a) deals with people with people like me, and b) is above-all REPUTABLE. I am willing to save up for and plop down a good downpayment... but only if I know it is safe to do so. A relative of mine who is in the new-car business said I would be able to get financing, but I'd need a hefty down-payment, so apparently it's possible. My question: Does anyone know of a REPUTABLE finance company that people with past bankruptcies can deal with?

A: -Why don't you try a Credit Union. They are usually more lenient. -he credit union I use won't even give you a *checking* account if you have bad credit -- let alone a bankruptcy. On the other hand, their fees are low to non-existent, and perhaps that's due to their risk-averse nature. .
