Approved Based On My 1 Year Canadian Credit History?

Q: I have been living in Canada for 1 year. Both my wife and I have decent jobs. As advised on this group before, I got a secured VISA card last August and make full payments every month. My question is: Can I apply for a platinum credit card now and get approved based on my 1 year Canadian credit history?

A: -This has nothing at all to do with your immigration or time in Canada and noone in this newsgroup can ever provide you with this answer. The only way you can find out is if you contact your bank or credit card provider. -In this group, there was a discussion about credit system in Canada in Jan, 2004. Nick B. helped answer some of my questions. Are you still monitoring this group, Nick? Can you please provide some advices on my question? - Is your question 'can you apply for the card' or 'will you get approved for the card'? Yes, you can apply. Doesn't mean you will be approved. As I said already, noone (not even Nick B) can tell you if you'll be approved, because there's no way for anyone here to match you with each card provider's criteria. The only way to find out is to ask your bank or card provider. Your ability to be approved for a particular type of credit card has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with this newsgroup, because your credit history after a year or so here has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with immigration, it has to do with your credit worthiness, both of which are mutually exclusive. -Every institution has different policy in issuing credit cards. Every individual's financial situation is different as well. I believe no one in this NG will be able to answer your question. Why don't you apply and find out if you qualify for one? If you have good earnings and one year's of history then I don't see that a problem getting a platinum credit card. But usually banks are very conservative in issuing credit cards with higher credit limit. So, your better bet will be to apply somewhere like Citi Master card or MBNA Master card. But I believe MBNA has applcation by invitation only policy. But you may wanna give them a call to find out. You may fill up Citi Bank's online application form through below URL and see whether you qualify for their platinum card. Usually they are a bit relaxed in issuing credit cards.
