Unc School Of Dentistry

Q: Can some one point me to the information that I would need to become a patient and have some reconstructive dental work done An answer here or by e-mail, your choice.

A:A few years ago, I made the mistake of recommending my mom go to the UNC Dental School. She had a lot of work to be done ($1800 estimate from my dentist) and I thought some money could be saved. After 40 trips or so (lots of cleanings and xrays), she had around 7 root canals done there without caps (students saved those for their friends and family), and still had a lot of work left to do. I took her back to my dentist again and the estimate to complete her work was now $2800. When the students go through courses there, they go through an order of learning the procedures taught in the course. They also try to find patients that align somewhat with the procedures and the order in which they are learning them. So, for example, if you need a root canal, you have to wait until the student gets to the point of learning about root canals. My understanding is that several changes have occured in the program since my mom went there. I don't know if the program is better now or not. I still don't think I could recommend anyone go there based on my mom's experience. I've heard that some people fly to Thailand and get excellent denistry at a fraction of the cost here, especially when they have a lot of work to be done.
