Ultrex Cookware Help If You Own It

Q: I was about to order the ultrex cookware and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with it that were good or bad, in general im interested in knowing does the coating come off after time of use especially when and if you use a metal utensil (thats one of their sales pitches is that metal spoons etc wont take the coating off) also if you have this cookware please let me know where you got it from ive done some Internet searches and haven't been able to find it available on the net if you know of a web site that is working that has ULTREX for sale please let me know,

A: I have been using the cookware for about 6 months now and it performs very well. The thick plate bonded to the bottom of the pans gives a very even heat on the larger pans. The smaller pans under 8" in diameter get very hot around the edges of the pans. This is because the plate on the bottom does not extend to the edges of the pan, it is about 3/4 inches short. On my gas stove, the flame spreads out on the bottom of the pan, and the thin stainless steel on the edges heats up very quickly, while the thick plate takes more time to heat up. The edges of the pans also cool down much faster. I don't use the smaller pans because the food burns or cooks faster on the edges. On the larger pans, the flame does not reach the sides, so the heating of the pan is very uniform. My parents have a electric stove, and this uneven heating on the smaller pans does not happen. They have a flat cooktop, and the Ultrex bottoms are very flat. This gives a very efficient heat transfer between the heating element and the pan. I highly recommend the larger pans, but would stay away from the smaller ones is you are using a gas stove. Don't know about the durability of the non-stick, but after reading other posts on Usenet, people say it holds up very well. I have had no problems so far. I recieved the pans as a present. They were ordered from the Home Shopping Network. Don't know of any Web site or mail order place that carries them.
