Preferred Stock Cookware

Q: For someone who cannot afford All Clad, is Preferred Stock cookware an acceptable substitute? If not, could anyone offer advice on an affordable brand of stainless cookware? Thank you.

A: I'm not familiar with Preferred Stock. If you have a restaurant supply store in your area, check with them. Brands like Eagle and DuraWare are fine products. Also, All Clad makes a low-end line that is just aluminum lined with stainless--no outer layer of stainless or anodized aluminum. I'd make sure that whatever you buy has a decent thickness of a good heat conductor--just thin stainless on the bottom won't cook evenly. Do you live near a Costco warehouse store (Price/Costco)? I purchased their Culinary Essentials stainless cookware and have been very satisfied. 18/10 stainless, similar in design to Cuisinart cookware I've seen with the stainless/aluminum/stainless wafer on the bottom. Stainless handles and tempered glass lids. 11 pc. set about $100.00.
