Need Deep Glass Cookware

Q: I am looking for a glass casserole-type dish big enough to submerge an item 6 in. by 7 in. by 3.5 in. tall. Corning had a line of cookware called visions, but no one seems to sell it anymore. The corningware "french white" series does not appear to be made of glass, but I cannot determine just what it is made of. As you have probably guessed, this isn't exactly for cooking. But cookware is so much cheaper and easier to get than specialty labware. To send me mail, please remove "other" from "otherworld" in the address. Thank you for your patience.

A: Corningware is made from something they call/ed "pyroceram". AFAIK is is safe over a flame. Have you thought to contact the Corning folks to ask them about it being flame-safe (assuming that's your intention.....) As far as finding Visions, try a Corning outlet (outlet malls, typically) -- or the local thrift shops, secondhand stores, Salvation Army stores, and the like. Try www.qvc.com A product search is on the opening page and should turn up what you are looking for.
