Main Ingredients Cookware?

Q: Anyone have personal experience with any of the Main Ingredients line of stainless steel cookware from Dillards? We've narrowed our search for new cookware down, but would like to ask before we commit $400 to a 16-piece set. Thank you.

A: Are you sure you wouldn't first rather look into the materials that the cookware is made from? Copper is good for certain kinds of cooking (e.g.,sauces), cast iron is good for retaining heat in long-time simmering and/or deep frying. Heavy aluminum has its own uses, as do the combinations - such as stainless steel w/copper-clad bottoms (not No.1 for anything). Brand names are only useful when you are comparing the same materials & weights, e.g., heavy versus light-weight copper. You will enjoy your research, and your cooking will be improved.

I have a spagetti pot from The Main Ingredients and it was purchased at Dillards in 2001 and I LOVE IT and use it almost daily.

Same here - I have the same pot I bought a few years ago and love it. Now, I'm looking into getting rid of my general non-stick pans and get the set of hard-anodized. FYI, from my recent experience, I'm steering away from SS fry pan/skillet due to having to use alot of butter/oil for cooking. But, it does work fine for meat with fat already in it like hamburger. Been doing lots and lots of research on cookware and it's can be so time consuming and frustrated. Just make sure you try it all out before the store return policy expires. I'm thinking about returning a Wolfgang Puck set back b4 the the 30 days expires and maybe refund or exchange for a Main Ingredients hard-anodized set.

i bought a nine inch frying pan this past weekend. i liked it becase it was heavy and very pretty. unfortunately, after one (1) gentle use it is stainec. zi have tried stainless steel cleaner and vinegar after that to no avail. I am very disappointed to say the least. Because I tore the Dillard's yellow sticker and the bar code off the bottom of the pan, it can' t be returned.

I have a Main Ingredient tea pot that is fantastic. The handle curves up and over so while it dries inside, I can hang the lid there. Wonderfully heavy for steeping a huge pot of tea for iced tea.
