Cookware In London & Paris

Q: I will be in London & Paris next week, but only for a couple of days in each. Any recommendations for good places to shop for cookware (bakeware, mostly) or food items (confit de canard...)?

A: Cookware in Paris : - La Carpe, rue Tronchet - trendy, traditional and unexpected items - Simon, rue Montmartre - traditional, extensive, used by professionals - La Bovida, on the corner of rue Montmartre and rue Etienne Marcel - like Simon - Genevi?ve Lethu, several locations (use yellow pages to find them) - trandy, more geared toward pretty than useful When in Paris you MUST get to E.Dehillerin. 18 -20 rue Coquilliere in the 1 arrondissment. Cross street is rue du Louvre near by Jardin des Halles. It is one of the best places anywhere for kitchen stuff of all kinds. It is a professional's store, not one of the tarted up cook ware shops. Make certain that you have plenty of time to look around and lots of $$$$ with you and an extra bag to cart all the stuff home. They do take CC. Ask for their catalogue. Their site is http://www.e-dehillerin.fr but it only shows a fraction of the items they carry. There are other shops in Paris but Dehillerin is the best. As for food items there is first of all the world famous Fauchon, 26 Place de la Madeleine in the 8 arrondissement. Very expensive and not my first choice but worth a look see. Very snotty. I would rather suggest La Grande Epicerie de Paris, 38 rue de Sevres in the 7 arrondissment and then Lafayette Gourmet in the Galleries Lafayette, 48 boulevard Haussmann, in the 8 arrondissment. All of these places are easy to reach by metro/bus/taxi.
