Cookware Advice Needed

Q: Am considering a stockpot purchase and have been looking at the All-Clad Master Chef series. I have also been looking at Sitram and a couple of other brands that all boast the same 18/10 gauge steel with a thick aluminum core in the base. Is there any difference between all these different pots except the price? All-Clad stuff is at least double the cost of these others. Does it matter or am I paying for their advertising campaign?

A: AllClad is expensive partly because it is constructed for even heat distribution which avoids hot-spots and burning. For most uses that a stockpot will be put to, this is irrelevant - you cannot burn a simmering stock! Unless you will be using the pot for other purposes, such as big batches of chili, save your money.
