Air Core Cookware

Q: By now, many of you will have seen the latest infomercial on UHF TV for "Air Core" cookware. Supposedly, this special cookware can reduce meal preparation time to just a few minutes of work, after which the cookware slowly cooks the food on its own. In the commercial, two American fat ladies, Carol and Marilyn, are cooking up all kinds of things in this cookware. For example, the bake a chicken and a chocolate cake in the same pot (with a cake pan separating the two). Somehow, both get cooked to perfection, despite having much different time and temperature requirements. The claim is that this double-walled stainless steel cookware keeps the heat in because of the air insulation. You put the raw ingredients in the pot, put on the double lids, and heat the thing on the stovetop until a temperature dial indicates the temperature is hot enough. Then, you take it off the heat and the food continues to cook for hours to just the right doneness. How the cookware knows the difference between, say, a pot roast and lasagna isn't explained. But the demonstration that really set off my BS detector was to show how well insulated the pot is, they put raw uncooked rice, frozen chicken breasts, and some salsa in the pot, heated it up until the dial said it was time to remove the pot from the heat, then placed it in the freezer! Supposedly, the Mexican-style chicken and rice was cooked to perfection while sitting in the freezer! This just seems too absurd. The cookware set costs $350, so they're not cheap. Has anyone bought a set?

A: I occasionally watch infomercials as I think they're just hilarious. UHF? Isn't that the knob that was worthless on the black and white TV when I was a kid? Is the air core stuff like the latest infomercial I've seen? Some sloshing when you heated the pan? They wouldn't have taken the time and effort to make the infomercial if they were'nt dead sure there would be a whole slew of takers. The marketplace is full of this kind of stuff. I always get a kick out of the creativity of the food prep charlatans and the exercise/weight loss device scammers. I guess the next step is to come out with a device that gives you buns of steel while brewing a perfect cup of coffee ...while your commuting.I don't know if this is the same stuff or not but we sell a set of Stainless Steel cook ware (heavy 304 Surgical stainless steel) which is comprised of 7 layers. Now I know from our other, less expensive, cook ware that 5 of the layers are comprised of 2 layers of stainless steel, one inside and one outside. 2 layers of an aluminum composite which bonds nicely to stainless steel and to aluminum. and one layer of pure aluminum for even heat distribution. Now I haven't found out what the other two layers are (we just took on this line very recently). The cook ware is waterless, greaseless and they claim that if you start like 4 pans on 4 burners, when the steam vent starts steaming, you can stack all four pans on top of each other, cover, turn the heat to low and everything will continue to cook normally. They do not make any claims of finishing the meal in the freezer, but it seems possible if the food has very little cooking left to do. Now, I didn't mean this as an advertisement but wanted to let you know that there is cook ware out there that is technologically advanced. Personally, I never buy anything from those infomercials because I've been bitten too many times. Call six months later for service and the company is gone and no one knows anything about repairing the stuff. Of course now, I'm only allowed to buy from us . And for the price of the cook ware. Our 17 piece set has a catalog price of $1,295.95. We sell it for $529.95 and because of sales, right now it is about $350. So the price is in the ballpark for a really good set of cook ware. Ours is guaranteed for life even against rust. Sorry this is so long. I hope it helps. Since we have picked up this lines of cook ware, and it's less expensive cousin, I've had to learn a lot about what makes good cook ware good. It is only my opinion, but if I can be of any further help, please let me know.

The cookware works like a charm and when I left my spouse I inadvertantly left behind my cookware and am in search of another set. They work wonderfully. The best 350 bucks I ever spent!
