Finding Reputable Professional Tax And Estate Planning

Q: When we were newly retired two years ago, we took the advice of our brokerage and contacted a professional firm to do our taxes and to help us develop a tax strategy. Despite going to a company with a lot references (in a firm with over a hundred employees) and paying over $700, we received no tax planning help, just a basic tax return (which I also did in TurboTax in 20 minutes for the exact same amount -- and I also filled in their forms, so all they did was enter the data into their computers) and a form that said we only had to pay $150 quarterly in estimated taxes (impossible). They never asked us a thing about our situation, what we owned/owed, etc. We just received a bill and the tax forms to be forwared to the IRS. It was a very standard tax form
