Salton Brand Espresso Machine

Q: Hi, has anyone heard of the Salton Brand of expresso machine. I just saw it this weekend and it seemed cheap for it to be anygood. Any comments Ralph House

A: You are correct sir! I own a Salton, thought it would be a "good deal" at $45.00, but I was sadly mistaken. As with just about any steam-driven machine, the best it can do is make strong coffee, not real espresso. This has something to do with the temperature and pressure being wrong. Real espresso machines heat the water to a pre-defined temperature (not boiling), then employ a pump to force the water through the coffee at the correct pressure (much higher than that developed by steam). About the best thing my Salton did for me was give me an appreciation of what _not_ to look for in an espresso machine. I have since ordered a Solis SL-90, so I can't wait to get rid of my Salton when it comes. Maybe you'd like to buy it?? I can give you a good deal.... ;)
