Coffee
Ahh yes, coffee. Most people find that their mornings just simply cannot get started without a cup or two of this caffeinated beverage. Some people shell out a few bucks everyday to pick up some coffee on the go, and others will purchase a coffee maker so they can make it at home. Should you choose to brew at home, the folks over at PartSelect recommend purchasing a decent coffee maker, rather than the cheapest one available. When it comes to the best brew, you have to shell out a little more for quality.
Q: Looks like a deal (at this moment). http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=4759214 It almost makes it too easy to pick up something cheaply when they list it as an EXPRESSO MACHINE. I've got eBay searches setup to cover so many misspellings that I catch a lot of cheap buys. Nice looking machine if someone wanted to take a road-trip to pick it up.A: A. 60 lbs. sounds way too light for a 2 group machine - I'd guess closer to 150. B. Even if the machine is light enough to ship UPS (under 150 lbs.) I would not recommend it - the machine is likely to arrive damaged and UPS...
3rd Or 4th Annual Campfire
Q: Hope you all have fun! I don't do camping or campfires. You all enjoy camping. Me, I'm taking a mental cruise in the tropics. Yes, I *do* miss the Caribbean, whydoyouask? Bye! {ship's horn sounds} {throws confetti} -- Freyja the NurseWenchWitch (despam me) Queen of the Sim City Realm, Royal Order of W.H.I.N.E www.eclecticeel.com CA's ocean is too cold for swimming...A: Daddio's getting on the road and getting it started. I'll leave after work Friday and spend the weekend, maybe longer. Might even be worth the taking of Friday off. (New job, but hey, THEY understand, right?!?) ...
About Making Cappuccino Topping
Q: I went home and tried the previously mentioned method of whipping milk with an electric egg-beater to make cappuccino foam, and although it did whip up into a nice foam, I found that it quickly reverted back to its original liquid state. It took only about 15 to 20 seconds in the bowl and even less when I added it to my coffee. I have tried it now with 2% and whole milk as well as with coffee cream and the results are basically the same. Am I doing something wrong or is this typical? If there is something I should...
Advise Needed. Whats A Good Machine...
Q: ...that can make 1) capuccino 2) ordinary coffee 3) Espresso in that order. Can one get a machine that does all three or at least the first two? Which would be a good one at a reasonable price. I want to surprise my wifeA: For cappuccnio, one uses espresso. So if you get an espresso machine, you'll also end up getting a cappuccino machine. BUT, all of that aside, you can purchase a couple different types of machines. Firstly, becareful of machines that claim to make both espresso/cappucnio and drip coffee. They usually use a steam driven espresso maker as their "espresso machine" portion of their product. However,...
Advise On Espresso Machine: Delonghi Bar - M 39 Caffe'grande
Q: I am living in Belgium & I am hinting for a hogh quality POD espresso machine (Illy E.S.E.), currently there is not a very large choice except the Caffe'Grande (BAR - M 39) from DeLonghi. Is that model a good buy ?A: I've had the opportunity to use the Illy "Pony" machine that was set up for the Illy pod. Nice setup but close to $2000 US. I'm not sure if this is the same machine you're looking at.. the "Pony" is made by Unic (France) I was told for Illy. Another pod/cartridge system to consider is Lavazza's Espresso Point. Pretty simple machine....
A Good Drip Coffee Maker?
Q: I'd like to buy a GOOD 12 cup drip coffee maker. Am I asking for too much? If you want to buy it based on price only... then yes. Yes, you ARE asking for too much.A: Price you're willing to pay? If price is no object, get the Philips Gourmet / Capresso (do they still market it?) coffee maker that boils the water in the top in a clear glass area, then does a gravity auto drip. If speed is your primary objective, get a Bunn If price savings is a consideration, one of the upper model Brauns at around $60-$70 should suit. Or a Krups...
Am I Drinking Plastic?
Q: I know this was not the ideal but, I ground some coffee (Peet's Italian Roast) to take on a camping trip so I could enjoy capuccinos while I was gone so I wouldn't have to take my grinder with me. I stored the ground coffee in a plastic container(similar to the glass ones with the metal band around it) while on our trip, which was the latter part of July. I ground WAY too much for this one trip, so when I got home I just put it away and kept using it. I usually lose my desire for capucinnos (i'll cut...
Another Day Begins 09 August 01
Q: "Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak." It's my pleasure, Calamity...glad they sometimes help:-)A: Things are going great, Nance. We're busy every day, business is booming. The only cappuccino bar in town just closed down and we bought her cappuccino machine and all the accoutrements, plus all her tables and chairs, several counters, and all the latte cups 'n stuff. We got it all really cheap, because the lady's in trouble and needed to be bailed out. We didn't rip her...
Anybody Knows The Cappuccino Machine?
Q: Gonna buy a sturdy and easy-to-use Cappuccino machine at Urbana- Chamapign or in nearby Mall in Tuscola. Where and how much i can get it?A: FWIW I have a Krups Nova and it works well and is quick, best if you tamp it hard...good for the $$ about $300, less if you look really hard, I would say let your fingers do the walking on this one..usually around Christmas you can find sales on it...I think they also have a web site and you could ask where to find it close to you.It is easy to use and doesn't need fixing all the time, in fact...
Any Espresso Machine Recommendations?
Q: I'm looking into buying an espresso machine for my wife for Christmas and, not knowing much about this sort of thing (and not even liking coffee - sorry :-( ), I was wondering if I could get some advice from the readers of this group. I'd like to hear: Your experiences (are they even worth it?) Any recommendations Price range. Also, if you have any pointers to review of machines (like Consumer Reports, but I couldn't find a review there), that would be helpful. Thanks a bunch - and I'm sorry. I tried liking coffee, but . . ....
Anyone Have A Cappucino Mach. And Actually Use It?
Q: My husband wants to buy a cappucino machine, I say it's a waste of $$. Anyone here actually have one that they use on a regular basis? sorry this is off the low carb subject, just thought someone might know. Thanks.A: We even have them down here in Mississippi. I use mine on the weekends. The neighborhood kids (teen-agers) even started coming over asking for some. I guess it depends on how much you like cappuccino & cooking. I'm glad I have mine. I use mine fairly often, and it's a pleasure to have around the house. I'm not fond of...
Awesome Deal On Ebay -"capuccino Machine"
Q: I know people don't like it when someone posts an ongoing Ebay auction in this newsgroup, but I just had to tell you guys about the great deal I found: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=544214316 I bet you can't buy a capuccino machine for $25 anywhere else ;) ...Think of how much money you could save from not having to go to Quicktrip for your Capuccino every day!A: My god!!!! I had to repost after looking at it!!!! What a piece of junk!!!!! Dude, keep your junk out of this newsgroup!!!! Tell you what, you can throw it away for free!!!! Nice machine! And it appears...
Being Ignored On Alt.support.tourette
Q: Marietta without her coffee????? Better brace yourself folks. We are all in for a bumpy ride. Thanks Arlene, for this post and the previous one, and keeping it on topic, my kids MOST DEFINATELY will appreciate me still being able to consume cappuccino, it will greatly decrease *their* stress levels, and I think that was in the IEP I still have post traumatic stress syndrome from my pregnancies (and I don't care if the last one was 15 years ago, either! ), so I generally react badly to anything with "OB" in the name.A: All those machines don't make espresso - they make...
Best Bet For An Office Espresso Machine?
Q: I'd get a Solis SL-70 and spend the rest of the $500 on a really good grinder.A: I'm trying to get an espresso/cappuccino machine for my office. At my last job, we had an Estro Profi, which did a decent job of keeping up with the 15-20 cup/day load we put on it, though the pump would sometimes vibrate excessively, and the portion control on the grinder was a little less reliable than I would like. I've been given a slightly higher budget to acquire the machine for my new company, and now I'm trying to decide what my best bet will be. So far,...
Best Cappuccino Machine Under $200
Q: what is the best cappuccino machine to buy between 150 - 200 ? thanksA: Depends what sales are on, but insist on a pump model with at least 15 bars of pressure. Then decide if you mind "pods" or insist on grinding your own. I had a Braun machine that was pretty good. The second time the pump blew I tried a Krups and have been very happy with it. This is good advice. Cappuccino depends on high pressure, and many of the home machines don't have pumps that put out a high enough pressure. The result is no mahogany colored 'crema', which...
Best Coffee Maker? I'm Replacing My Chemex
Q: i think the Chemex is a nice machine, but i'd like to find something that uses a gold filter. i hate the idea of buying a cheap coffee maker.A: If you want to buy on-line check out our site. We have the Consumer Guide "Best Buy" Krups "ProAroma 12 Time" with the gold filter. I'm given to understand the swissgold folks have a conical filter for the chemex. Check with Tom at Sweet Maria's. Maybe he has it or can get it.. I have no affiliation- just a satisfied customer. this url is dead, i would like to buy a chemex coffee maker...
Bodum Coffee Maker Revisited
Q: I'm the original poster who bought the Bodum coffee maker. It is not a french press. Except for the shape of the pot it is constructed like the Bodum tea pot with a plastic insert for the grounds (I assume). There is no plunger, only that plastic insert to separate the grounds from the water. I appreciate all the posts, but the french press method doesn't apply to this pot. Alas, I still don't know how to make coffee in the darn thing :-)A: As I said in my earlier post, it's probably a vacuum pot. Does the brewer consist...
Bsod On Coffee Maker
Q: My office has a Keurig coffee maker that's almost a tiny robot: you open a drawer and put in the creamer-sized container of coffee (your choice of flavors, usually 5-12 choices from the stack of dispensor boxes). Close the drawer, push the button and it brews a single cup of coffee in the filter cup and dispenses the coffee to the drink cup below, moving the spend coffee grinds into a bin inside the machine. Well, a) They apparently never read "The Design of Everyday Things" for the cup bin needs to be emptied occasionally. Is the bin easily removed from a hinged door? Noooooooooooooooooooo! The drip tray must...
Bunn Gr10-w Coffeemaker - $60
Q: http://detroit.craigslist.org/hsh/1156442461.html yup. thas' right boy. almost 600 silvias out there. do the math. $850 (tdh number) X 600 = 510,000 correct? (not counting gaggias, Qucik mills, pasquinis isomacs and others modded) I think your head is about to explode bobby boy.A: Or, someone could pay $850 for one of your cheap Chinese PID'd machines? The more I think about it, that Bunn coffeemaker is looking better & better! Tex http://tinyurl.com/truth-about-PID-s http://tinyurl.com/threats-from-Hi-Tech-owner http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/machinemods/322597#322597! And you've been doing this for how long? The way I calculate it, you might've grossed $300,000 by selling your machines with the cheap Chinese temperature controllers. I've got news for you bub, that's...
Burr Grinders
Q: A friend of mine has asked me to solicit opinions on the best burr grinder, without any regard to cost or to the difficulty of obtaining a particular device. Your experiences and opinions will be most appreciated.A: "you might also check into a Saeco model I'm too lazy to go check out the model, but I've been using a $225.00 Saeco for almost a year now and I'm completely satisfied. However, it's my first burr grinder so I don't have anything to compare it with. I suspect its the case with all of them, but this one leaks quite a bit of grounds. ...
Can't Find Cuisinart Espresso Machine
Q: I recently read a review of the Cuisinart espresso machine at: http://coffee.bc.ca/info4.htm It is described as being well made and capable of producing a good shot of espresso. The price is not quite as shocking as some of the other machines. The machine is not carried in my area, Oklahoma City. Does anyone know where I can find it? Cuisinart customer service was unable to help. Also, I would love to hear from someone that has knowledge of this machine.A: You may try Zabar's of NYC: (212) 787-2000. They carry all sorts of kitchen equipment and coffee machines, including the Cuisinart, at good prices. I bought mine there. I'm...
Cappuccino Machine
Q: Hi. I'm thinking about buying my parents a cappuccino machine, I know nothing about them and I want to spend about $100 since I'm just a poor college student. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question if its not please direct me to another newsgroup. What should I be looking for in a cappuccino machine? Does $100 seem like enough money to get one of reasonable quality?A: That may be the normal price now... I actually purchased the Salton (Brand name) "Three in One" model several years ago and liked it. It does a regular...
Cappuccino Machines
Q: I currently ::gasp:: don't have a cappuccino machine and was wondering if anyone on this newsgroup could reccomend any ones that are relatively non-expensive. I'm a big coffee fan so, while price is an issue, quality is also a very large factor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.A: I have a Krups Espresso Mini. It is an excellent cappuccino machine and relatively inexpensive. It has been very durable and has produced endless amounts of cappucino and espresso for me. Except that the espresso mini (which I also have) is steam, not pump driven and so cannot produce good espresso. While the cappuccino may be mediocre but...
Cappuccino Newbie - How The Heck Do I Froth The Milk?
Q: Thanks for reading. My wife and I recently bought a cappuccino machine. We've been pretty pleased with the results but are not consistently successful at getting enough frothed milk. We've made several cups and only once or twice have we gotten a lot of froth for topping the drink (and we don't know what we did differently those times!). - we're using a stainless steel container. - the container is chilled. - also using skim milk (heard it's easier to froth).A: f you've had success on a couple of occasions I suggest you just practice a lot. Start with the wand just below the...
Cappucino Machine?
Q: I was wondering if anyone knows of a Jura of Switzerland Impressa E55 Cappuccino Machine. I saw one demonstrated in Auckland, NZ last weekend and was extremely impressed. It not only ground the coffee and had six settings, it also emptied the used coffee, integrated rinsing, cleaning and decalcifying program, a heat regulator, 2 setting frother, hot water function. Only trouble is that it was $1895 and I was wondering if it is available in Europe or London and at what price and had anyone else used one before.A: I don't think the Impressa is sold in the US but the Opal is. Has...
Capresso 101
Q: I've moved up to a Saeco superautomatic machine and would like to sell my Capresso 101 Espresso/Cappuccino machine. I'm asking $99. plus UPS shipping. Details at http://www.njmgallery.com/z/capresso101.htmlA: I need some help in determining if there is a coffee (company) called Dewey and Ebert. We asked the waitress at a restaurant in Charleston, SC what kind of coffee we were drinking. We're pretty sure she said Dewey and Ebert. I've had no luck finding anything close on the internet. Thanks for any help or clarification. Dewey-Egbert makes a coffee concentrate that is sold frozen in the food service industry. It requires a special...
Car Coffee Maker / Electric Kettle / Water Heater?
Q: I have a question for car (not RV) campers in the U.S. When camping, what's your favourite way of making coffee or any other hot drinks? 1. You prefer cold drinks when camping. 2. You make sure the campsite has AC power so you bring 110AC equipment. 3. You go to the nearest gas station. 4. You use a propane stove. 5. You bring some kind of a portable coffee maker/electric kettle/water heater/immersion coil (ever heard of such a beast?). 6. Other (plain pot over a campfire (ouch), etc.) I was mostly thinking of option 5. But when I search for "electric kettle" and "car" together, the search results...
Chemex Gets Clogged
Q: I can't seem to get more than 2 cups of coffee out of my Chemex without it getting clogged and stalling out. I've tried using the coarsest setting on my KitchenAid grinder but it still clogs. Plus I think using coarse grind is very inefficient. I've noticed that when I grab the corners and lift the filter up, it flows mush faster but when I set it back down it barely dribbles out. One thing I'm going to try is keeping the filter filled to the max the whole time until I get enough coffee and then dumping the water out. Any suggestions?A: Have you tried a...
Cleaning Coffee Maker
Q: I have a standard Rowenta coffee maker, 10 cup capacity, nothing fancy. I took a look inside the water chamber and was amazed at how nasty it looks in there. Can someone give me some tips on cleaning this area. I'm afraid of using detergents or chemicals because it could affect the taste of the coffee. To complicate matters, because of the current heat wave, we are experiencing an invasion of ants. The ants have discovered the coffee maker and are swarming inside the compartment where the hot water exits into the filter. I decided to skip coffee this morning ;-/ Yikes, is there any hope of cleaning...
Clogged Steam Tube-help!
Q: The Steam tube on my cappuccino machine (Espresso Gaggia) is clogged. I took the hat off the machine but I don't have the right tool to engage the nut to take the steam tube off. Is there any other method that will unclog the tube??A: You can do all the complicated stuff but first try putting the tube into a glass of warm water and letting it soak overnight. Next time be sure to blow some steam thru the system before shutting it down. Our machine (salton) came with the tool built into the scoop , but looking at it , a small...
Coffee Maker
Q: Can anyone tell me if 20 minutes is a normal amount of time for my drip coffee maker to make a 10 cup pot? It seems like an awfully long time to me. So is there some type of drip coffee maker that is quicker that someone could recommend. I do drink espresso, homeroasted of course and have a press pot and a couple of vac pots, but I need something I can switch on in the morning and not have to spend much time fiddling with it.Any suggestions?A: Twenty minutes seems *awfully* pokey to me, too. I suppose there could be some electrical...
Coffee Maker/grinder
Q: I did some poking around dejanews on this, but didn't come up with anything conclusive. I am considering getting a combination grinder/coffee maker, because, in the words of my husband, "the grinder makes a mess" (I believe the actual problem is the person trying to dump the grounds into the coffee maker, but I digress.) I've discovered two, one by Cuisanart, and one called....something "team". The cuisenart one is $150, and the other is over $200. Questions: anyone know of any other machines I should be looking at? anyone have experience with a combo (I'm not much of a coffee snob, and given that I'm drinking it first...
Coffee Maker That Travels Well
Q: In mid February I'll be on the road again for a few days. The horror is having to drink dreadful coffee from whatever beverage I can find in the town I'm in. I'd like to bring my own coffee maker so I can make a good cup of coffee while I'm out of town. Has anyone got any recommendations for a small coffee maker that will travel well? It only has to make one or two mugs of decent coffee. All I can guarantee in my hotel room is an electrical outlet. So, I won't have boiling hot water available for a french press style coffee maker....
Commercial Espresso Machine Question
Q: Is there any real advantage to geting a machine with a double boiler? As they cost over 3 thousand dollars more than a standard machine, is it really worth the price? Also what experiances good and bad have you had with various brands? Thank you for any insight.A: I rep La Marzocco, so I'm pretty biased. The double boiler design is genuine and does provide advantage. For volume shops where you are pulling a lot of steam to prepare lattes and mochas you will have a huge advantage if your steam is coming from one boiler and your brew water for...
Correct Lalr(1) Parsing For Objective-j, Already Available
Q: I was actually working on my own solution for LALR(1) parsing based on a context-free grammar in ECMAScript but (with much joy, since I hope it's more efficient) I've stumbled upon this: Project: http://jscc.jmksf.com/ Documentation: http://jscc.jmksf.com/doc/jscc_manual_0.30.pdf Apparently it's been used to create a PHP-like virtual machine in JS, so it must work. To be honest, LALR(1) parsing is not that complex an area, so if someone makes a parser that works there's not a great deal of room for unexpected issues. I'm proposing that Cappuccino take a stab at changing their parsing routine to use this (standardized) parsing approach, which will be able to detect the syntax errors that...
Decent Home Espresso Machine?
Q: Can anyone give me an opinion on what would be a decent home espresso machine? I've read the FAQ, and decided that a pump-driven machine is probably what I'm looking for, and would like advice on what specific brand to get/avoid, how much to spend, and where to buy from (I don't know of a store around here that actually has any real machines in stock. The best I've seen was a krups steam machine). I'd like to not spend a fortune on it, but I want something that will make espresso. My steam machine makes a decent substitue for capuccino and...
Delonghi Infomercial
Q: If anyone of you have been up late, zombie-like watching TV lately, you may have caught a glimpse of a fatty Italian fella with a ponytail and a "magic" cappuccino machine making cappuccinos for half of San Francisco's residents at some mysterious park in North Beach. Without entering into the merits of the DeLonghi machine (my opinion, even without having actually used one is that it sucks, especially since it is obvously not a pump-driven espresso machine and the "magic" froth maker is bound to get clogged every other minute and probably requires very long and tedious disassembling and cleaning after every session), I'd like to post the...
Descaling A Hx Espresso Machine
Q: Super simplified version for plumbed-in machines: http://tinyurl.com/ptym6d It's wonderful that you add so much to the group bub. I'm sure everyone is very anxious to buy Hi Tech Espresso products after that?A: Whatever my intentions, don't forget it was you who broke our agreement to lay off each others posts. So, no I have no intention of being nice to you. Why should I, or anyone, when you attack some one for no reason and then cry that you're the victimized party? I'd sooner cuddle up to a viper than play nice with you....
Di
Q: Welcome back. So nice to "see" you again. I missed you!A: Marvin thought I was kidding when I insisted on continuing to move into my little place up here and get ready to go back to work. He thought I was playing with him... so he offered to take out extra life insurance policies if I'd move in with him. Then he said I must be on drugs if I preferred working at the hotel to living with him.... lolol! Well, that was it for me... I don't see Marvin anymore. Goddess save me from manipulative men in too big a...
Discourse Of Multiculturalism
Q: The arguments for and against multiculturalism, when analysed, may be represented thus: FOR there's all the food. AGAINST yeah but now we've got all their recipes we can send 'em home FOR ah but there is something in the touch of a true wog hand on the cappuccino machine that makes the cup of coffee quite divinely different than when the same order is made of a chink (when it tastes like kerosene) or an anglo-saxon (when it tastes like dirt). AGAINST the argument would seem to come down on the one hand to the blight on the aesthetic landscape, and on the other to the relative marginal utility in the taste of...
Don't Go To Tim Horton's On Elizabeth Avenue East
Q: who pee'ed in your coffee?A: You should of made the complaint to TDL limited they dole out the franchises plus it was not the staffs fault but i sorta know where you come from .If you don't wish to go there try another location ?maybe what is needed is some well deserved competition here maybe a Country Style or a Robin's Donuts hey donuts get smaller and prices get higher so you get a shitty service well you should of asked for the manger and lodged a complaint or go to the big boss TDL limited. Well, that seems to be this month's promotion...
Eed Advice On Some High End Home Espresso Machines
Q: After burning up/wearing out several 200-400 machines the past ten years I want a serious machine that will last ten years or a lifetime. I'm considering the Pasquini Livia 90, the MiniGrimac La Uno, the Rancillio S24, and the Salvatore home basic. Price is not a consideration under $1700 for the grinder and espresso machine. That is, I'll spend up to 1700. Can anyone offer an opinion of the above machines, and what they would buy for $1700? Would you get a machine that had to be plumbed or a pour over?A: I speak not from experience owning them, but from a lot of reading, research, and casual...
Espresso Experts--advise Sought On Machine
Q: Dear Coffee Experts I have decided that I want to buy an espresso machine as a present for myself. The factors I am weighing in descending order of priority are as follows: 1. Quality of Espresso. 2. Quality Machine. 3. Ease of Use. 4. Availability of Parts and Repairs. 5. Price always matters, but I usually side with Quality when price and quality collide. 6. Appearance. These are the options I am considering and my assessment of their relative merits. Below you will find the marketing materials that I have gathered on each machine and the Link from...
Espresso Machine - Which Technology?
Q: I am looking at an espresso machine, and I can't afford to buy a lemon, so please could the experts advise me. The two machines that I like seem to use different technologies: The first machine ('Krups') has a tiny metal container drilled with dozens of tiny holes, at the end of a handle/lever, which is clipped/screwed under the main body of the machine. I assume that hot water is then forced through this 'sieve' to produce the espresso coffee. The second machine ('Bosch') is different: it has a funnel-shaped plastic container with a lid that screws on tightly, and this container seems to contain some sort of...
Espresso Machine?
Q: I don't think I've ever come across modified espresso machines, only coffee makers. The espresso machine is almost like an alter in my Sims' homes. It would be cool to have some alternative to the one included in the game, even though it's great. Anyone know of any others out there?A: while visiting my site I hope people click on the "make a sugestion" link to make a sugestion, I am willing and able to make all sorts of object, if I can't then I will reply in the newsgroup and on my site, happy simming, wait an hour for the junk car I did d/l...
Espresso Machine At Price Club
Q: I recently saw that the Price Club is selling a pump espresso machine for $95. This is the first time I've seen a pump machine for under $100. It is made by Braun and the model is the 400E (or E400). Does anyone know this machine and have an opinion?A: Yes, I'm familiar with this machine. It's the biggest DOG on the market. Of 8 examples that I've seen, NONE functioned properly out of the box. This turkey leaks, sprays, and dribbles, but usually can't get up enough pressure to even ripple the surface of the milk. They've dropped the price a LOT on this one...
Espresso Machine, D*mmit!
Q: Well Kurt, if its similar to the small, department store type I have, I hope you have better luck than I did. You just (in my experience) don't get anything approaching a "commerially avauilable cup of espresso from these small units. No crema to speak of of. As I said, I hope you have better luck and maybe some of the experienced barristas can provide some tips!A: True. You need a "pump" machine. A Gaggia "Espresso" is a good entry level one - it has a good pump and boiler and a 58MM solid portafilter. But then you didn't ID what you...
Espresso Machine Question
Q: Can anyone explain how a pump espresso machine works? And there a reasonably priced pump machine for home use? Any details would be appreciated.A: Mike, Mike, Mike... sir you've not done your shopping! For the home market, a "pump" machine consists of a vibratory or oscillatory pump. For example, image a small brass plunger encased in an FDA approved plastic housing, wrapped with copper coiling and controlled by some means. The applied current produced an elctromagnetic field and pushes/pulles the brass plunger (or somethign to this effect). This, in turn, creates a vaccuum on one end, drawing water from a resevoir and through its feedlines into...
Espresso Machine Recommendation?
Q: I am new and this is so much fun!! Does anyone have an espresso machine recommendation? I have a krups espresso novo, about 5 years old. The espresso takes awful and the milk won't froth. I think that it's time to throw it out. The array of new machines is very confusing--what brand and model is good? Thanks a lot.A: My husband and I have a DeLonghi espresso/cappuccino machine, and we love it. I agree completely. The DeLonghi machines not only make great espresso, but they are also quite inexpensive. Our first one cost us $95.00 and our second (we retired the...
Espresso Machine Recommendations?
Q: Big on attitude but short on information ("I doubt what I tell you will help you"), other than the basic fact that one wants a pump machine. But thanks. ;)A: An Americano, because of the dilution, has a similar texture to coffee made in a drip machine, French press, etc. But the flavors can be different. Whether you like it better is a matter of taste. The difference will be more obvious if you are starting out with espresso made with a pump machine. These machines force hot water (not steam) through coffee at high pressure (9 atm). The stuff...
Espresso Machine, She Not Working!
Q: I need help on how to prime a Brazila espresso machine. It has 4 buttons. 1 marked on/off 2 shows two cups 3 shows dripping liquid 4 steam It has a steam valve, and all appears to work properly, Please hurry, the odor of the bag of freshly ground beans is making me crazy.A: Continuous running commercial espresso machines need a special water pump, this is a separate unit usually installed under the counter that provides high pressure to force fresh water into the pressurized hot water tank. The machine will not work without the pump. If you bought a used machine, it's not unusual to sell them without...
Espresso Machine Suggestions, Another's Request?
Q: As an avid fan looking to upgrade my home espresso maker, I'm having trouble comparing prices versus features versus brand quality. No one seems to have these things listed in one place and I haven't been able to find a good location for equipment reviews. Does anyone have a unbiased review source? Can I get a pump unit with good dwell time and large steam capacity for less than $300? In my area, Starbucks is pushing home units under their name. Who makes these? Where are good knowledgable places to research & buy? Let's hear some comments.A: The barista for $300 is a great price....
Espresso Machine Voltage 110-->220
Q: next time you go to the us, drop by Radio Shack and pick up a DC/DC converter. These convert between 220 and 110 and are quite cheap. You can build one yourself too... all you need is a transformer with suitable winding ratios. The frequency is not significant in this case (I assume that there is no digital clock on this espresso machine that needs the correct frequency too keep correct time etc..., if there is a timer, it most likely uses quartz crystals anyway.). My wife just returned from the US and brought me a DeLonghi Caffe Espresso pump driven espresso machine, Model...
Espresso Machine, Which One To Buy?
Q: I have owned three expresso machines, each one more expensive than the last, The cheap ones really didn't make a good tasting esspresso at all. Certainly don't buy one that relies on steam pressure to inject the hot water through the ground coffee; get one with a pump. I have a Gaggia, from Sam;s Club, which works OK.A: I could go on for hours on the pros and cons of espresso machines, but I'll keep it short. If you consider yourself a true connoisseur of real espresso, and can tell when your double shot at the local java joint is not good espresso, and can...
Espresso Of Gewoon Lekkere Koffie
Ever See Coffee Being Made In A Vacuum Coffee Maker?
Q: Ever see coffee being made in a vacuum coffee maker?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NpAWYktInc That was cool that you slipped a plug for GCBC in at the end. Who made the mug for you?A: Sly, eh? I'm putting together a group buy for the club & having them made by 4Imprint.com. I think it's cool. I put together a few group buys of hand made pottery mugs but no one yet has put together an actual commercial style mug. It's a long time coming. Here's a link showing what they'll look like. http://home.earthlink.net/~cm_harmon/images/GCBC%20mug%2002%20(Small)... The reviews are mixed. Many folks seem to be happy with the grinder. And given...
Excellent Home Espresso Machine
Q: This machine is both elegant and durable. It's as easy to use as 1,2,3. It features an electric pump system and GRAN CREMA PRESSURIZED PORTAFILTER. The porta filter alone sells for $50 or more. FROTHING IS A SNAP!! A HEATED CUP WARMING SURFACE ON TOP OF THE MACHINE KEEPS YOUR CUPS NICE AND WARM WHILE YOU WAIT FOR YOUR DELICIOUS ESPRESSO. Do the research and see what a quality machine this is. It's rated among the top home espresso machines. For the true espresso connoisseur. This machine is adorable. It retails for $269 so this is a real deal. I have for sale a home...
Expresso Machine That Can Use Coarse Beans?
Q: I use to have a simple $20 Magic Chef steam expresso machine. The only way I could keep the water from pouring through was to have the grounds set to turkish. They had to be dust. I'd get the grounds from Books-A-Million and it works when they are extremely fine. However, many times they are not fine enough. People say you aren't supposed to have such fine grounds. This means there must be some machines out there that don't require such fine grinding. I'd like to know which machines. I'm only looking to make Lattes (1 or 2 expresso shots & milk) and...
Faema Ciao! Espresso Machine
Q: Anyone out there have any experience with FAEMA's small espresso machine, the Ciao! model? Got one at home a couple years back, and aside from the 'coffee' light not connecting properly (doesn't always come on), it seems to work just fine and be a wonderful product. So why does my espresso/capuccino come out so bad?A: Although the FAEMA machine may work properly ,we have found that very few if any of the small machines produce a decent espresso...... the problem is in the pressure..... to develope a good espresso the machine should have at min. 15 bars of pressure!...
Favorite Coffee Memories
Q: Viennese coffee memories: Paying $5 for a single small cup of coffee 10 years ago in the Stadt Park in Vienna. Not very good coffee by Vienna standards, but by US standards it was quite good. Oh yeah, I guess watching the waltzers was an added bonus. Every morning while in Vienna going to a Konditorei for breakfast. Having a great cup of coffee and pastry. Having the locals think I was strange for drinking their coffee black, while they drank melange -- coffee with artery-hardening doses of cream. Having the "coffee lady" come by every morning and afternoon at work. From her cart she served coffee from...
Free Gestetner Machine In London
Q: A year or two ago I borrowed a gestetner machine from a friend who didn't want it anymore. I am moving and haven't used it at all (so don't know in what condition it is in). If anyone wants it then please get in touch. I don't think anyone wants any money for it so long as it is going to a good home. It is about the size of a rucksack and ways about as much as I can carry for ten meters. You have to be able to collect it *by car* from Shepherds Bush. Don't ask me to take it to Glasgow...
French Vanilla Cappuccino
Q: How would I go about making a French Vanilla cappuccino in my cappuccino machine? I've thought about it maybe being the coffee or something can someone lead me in the right direction??A: Xoom, I'd take whatever amount of espresso you wanted (I usually use a double or triple shot) then steam the milk. (I normally use 2/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk but you can adjust this to your liking.) Before adding the steamed milk, add some French Vanilla syrup, again to taste (I like @1/2 oz for a double shot) to the espresso, then pour the steamed milk over. I use Torani syrup...
Futurmat Rimini In Miami - $800
Q: http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/bfs/1147920944.html If anyone's interested in a $3000 machine for peanuts? I wouldn't recommend anyone but the most fearsome DIRer buy it without kicking the tires. The guy will let you take a look at it if you're anywhere near his showroom in Hialeah. These are great machines - still in production by Quality Espresso of Spain - that retail for ~$3000.A: Uh, tdh, Al (sprsso) works on espresso machines FULL TIME. He is not some retired hack who dabbles with homeowner machines as do you. so I would respect Al's word over yours -- anytime. BTW, I don't see you over on CG too much. why...
Gaggia Espresso Machine
Q: Guys, Please help me out. I am interested in purchasing the Gaggia espresso machine. The A: Well, I'm not nearly as experienced as many who read this group, but I was also looking for a good espresso machine, and not yet ready to spend $400. I like to make a "mocha" in the morning, so "perfect" espresso is not a necessity. I wasn't happy with my Krups steam espresso maker though, so I bought a Gaggia Espresso espresso maker for $110 from Aabree Coffee Company (it was a demo model in excellent condition, apparently only used twice). I am very happy with...
Giotto Vs. Pasquini Livia Auto
Q: Depends. What do you want to do with it?A: ou have ruled out the Isomac Millenium or Tea? Personally, I like the mechanical simplicity (and looks- There! I admitted it) of the E-61 grouphead and would go that route to avoid the extra electronics.. but, once again, that's just me.... Check out the La Valentina espresso/cappuccino machine at 1st-line. It is absolutely awsome in every way! It deserves a very serious look by anyone seeking a machine in or near its price range. Although I have to say I don't like the looks of it nearly as much as the Giotto/Tea/Junior machines. It...
Give Me Ideas For Christmas Party
Q: Dh is in the Air Force, and the spouses' group is coming to my house at 7:00 pm for the December coffee. What should the gracious, frugal hostess serve? I was thinking about a melange of cocktail food, like a cheese ball, spinach dip, tea sandwiches, something in a chafing dish, sausage balls, blah blah blah, and decorated sugar cookies or gingerbread men. No shrimp-based food, of course, and I am studiously avoiding anything reeking of Martha Stewart, the evil dragon of spendthrift excess. The other idea is to do an assortment of Christmas cookies of different types, like drop cookies, rolled and sliced cookies,...
Goedenmorgen
:') TINPLAAAATE! Gold Wing: How Necessary Is Reverse?
Q: Got a question for you Gold Wing owners out there. I'm getting ready to buy my first Gold Wing, and am trying to decide between a '96 Interstate with 3700 miles and a '96 Aspencade with 37,000 miles, both for $10,500. I'm tempted to buy the Interstate because it's had so little wear of any kind, but I'm thinking I might find myself fervently wishing I'd bought the Aspencade the first time I have to maneuver the bike on an incline and don't have that reverse gear. Do those of you riding reverse-equipped Gold Wings find you use that reverse often? Conversely, do you...
Have A Coffee
Q: Read email and make money, very easy, why not try, check it outI am searching for a really good espresso machine - I am not so keen on gadgets and such, but one that makes good espresso if fed with good beans/grounds. I have seen the ones in Starbucks here in California (The Athena and Barista) - and am always skeptical about store branded products such as this. So I guess my questions are: 1. What are the good/best espresso makers? 2. Are the Starbucks ones any good? They hit about the right price point for me.A: Starbuck's Barista machine is a Saeco Rio Vapore....

Help Me Find The Right Machine...
Q: I'm looking for an expresso/cappuccino machine, but I haven't found very many choices locally. If anyone knows of a place selling Gaggia or Saeco in the Chicagoland area I would like to know about it. Otherwise, I'm going to have to do this mail order and I could use some help. I was thinking of the Saeco Magic Combi Cappuccino (is has built in grinder). At $350 the price is right. This thing has some kind of weird frothing system, does it work? Does it have a regular steam tube if I want to do the froth myself? Is the...
Which Expresso Machine to Pick!
Q: Can anybody help me pick out which espresso/cappuccino machine to buy? I've definitly decided to spring for the more expensive ones that rely on electrically induced pressure rather than the steam pressure, like my current Krups mini, which no longer serves me like I wish it could. Some brand's I've looked at are the Baby Gaggia and the Krups, and I've heard good things about the DeLonghi, but I could use some more info. Also, I've heard that cataloges from the NW often have lower prices than stores, especially where I am near Washington D.C. Does...
Help Me Please!
Q: The resturant I work in has an italian cappuccino machine with no maintinance book. How do I take care of it? I can see something floating in the water level bubble. The water has a musty smell. Is it possible that milk may have been sucked into the machine? If so what do I do? Can I run the water out it or do I need somebody to repair it?A: What brand of machine is it?? It is possible to suck milk back into the boiler. This can happen if the machine is turned off every night, or if...
Help On Espresso Machine
Q: Picked up a nearly new espresso/capucinno machine last week for $2 Canadian ($1.24 US), and it works great. However, there are no instructions, so the coffee was a little blah ( too much water?) How does this little cutie work? What is that little steam wand for? Please post ASAP as my wife wants to get rid of the little sucker.A: Congrats on your frugal find, Marc! I found this info at about.com, hope it helps! "How to Pull a Great Shot of Espresso From your Coffee/Tea Guide Here are basic instructions for pulling a crema-rich shot of espresso using a semi-automatic pump-driven...
"high Zoot" Espresso Machine
Q: I'm dreaming of owning a commercial quality espresso machine. Are there any espresso machines with the following features: 1) Single group 2) Dual boilers (for independent steaming & brewing) 3) Brass boilers 4) 220V 5) Backflush capability 6) Water supply hook-up If so, how much would I expect to pay (I know it's over $1K)? Thanks,A: Single group (one head), true commercial-grade espresso machines are available through many dealers that supply restaurants and coffee houses. They have water hookups rather than a tank (a softener between the water line and the machine would be almost mandatory), and can be (and should be) backflushed daily with the aid of a "blank" filter (often...
Home-made Espresso Machine? Anyone
Q: Has anyone here ever tryed building there own espresso machine? I'm vary tempted to try it. I would like input from any of you that have a good insight into what makes a good espresso machine. Things like: How much pressure should it create. -Or is more always better? What metal should best be used (brass? steel? lead? :-). What size the holes in the filter should best be. The shape of the...
Home Cappuccino Machine
Q: I had a $5,000.00 commercial cappuccino machine in my home until a freind introduced me to Briel a Portugese company... I have never been more pleased; infact I took out my commercial machine three years ago and have never looked back. Another good feature about Briel that beats all other mfgrs. is that they have a ten year warranty on the pump and they also off an 800 cust.service line if you have any problems... If you are interested in purchasing one or if you want some information call 1-888-372-2787 I know those guys can help you find out who in your area sells them.A: I had a...
Home Espresso Machine
Q: I'm looking to buy a good home espresso machine but cannot find many retail stores in the Seattle metropolitan area. I've been to Beans And Machines but they seem overpriced by about 15%. Anyone have any suggestions?A: Beans & Machines is it locally. Well, almost. Mr. J's in Bellevue carries a Rancillo, Sur la Table in Kirkland has some Caprezzo and a Pavroni . The Bon Marche Home Store under Bel Square carries Krups, but those don't qualify as "good". Some Fred Meyer stores (including Monroe!) carry Briel, but again, those aren't really any good. Starbucks carry their relabelled...
Homemade Coffee Maker
Q: I use an Aeropress for making one cup and I'm happy with it. But I've been trying to find a good way to make multiple cups. I've tried a french press but it allows too much sediment and you have to use coarse ground coffee which I think is a waste. Tried the Chemex but it gets clogged because my grinder creates too much dust. I like the idea of the french press, I think dumping all the water in with the coffee at once is the way to go. It seems like you get a more even saturation. The problem is how to remove the...
Hot! Nuova Simonelli Pic Of New Machine
Q: Very hot looking new machine. Looks like it fixes every gripe against the Ellimatic save one: the hot water dispenser. However, now that I am using Sylvia regularly (an love it), I must say that the only hot water I take out of the boiler is to bleed for steam. So no biggie there. The size of the resevior and the boiler are impressive. I wish I could have waited. Maybe I need a new machine soon...for the office? ;-) I hope it comes in closer to the $650 than the $1400. My guess is from the looks of it ~$900-$950. Can't get it to $1200, because...
How Do I Make Better Cappuccino Foam?
Q: Whatever you do, DON'T get a Delonghi espresso maker! The motor stinks and even if you send in your registration, it just goes to Italy for their (non-customer) records. You can't lose your receipt, even if you've done all the paperwork. Mine had been sitting on the shelf at Costco for so long that they wouldn't believe me when I took it in (after filling out all the registration stuff and sending it in right away). It was only a few months in use, but the production date on the unit was not recent. Oh, tangent. Anyhow, I can't imagine any way to...
How To Use Espresso Machine?
Q: I was just given a simple espresso/cappuccino machine, but the person who gave it to me seems to have lost the instructions and never really learned how to use it. I've figured out how to make espresso, and it seems to work okay for that, but I can't seem to make a decent latte'. What I've tried is to 1. make 2 (2-oz) cups of espresso, with 4 cups of water in the machine 2. once the 2 cups of espresso are made, remove the carafe and put a...
Inexpensive Espresso Machine Recommendations Wanted
Q: I've been lurking for a few weeks, and visited a few of the websites mentioned. I've found several great sites with product reviews (like coffeekid), but unless you have some idea of the machine(s) you are interested in these reviews don't help you get started. So... About 5 years ago I had an el cheapo home espresso machine, I think we bought it for less than $100 at a catalog store. You unscrewed the cap, added water, screwed the cap back on, turned it on and let it heat up, it started making coffee when it got hot enough. If you opened the knob to...
Inexpensive Espresso Machines
Q: Hey I know you can spend from $300.00 - $2000.00 on a nice Cappuccino machine. But you can also pick one up at Walmart for $35.00 . And it does a good job. The Mr. Coffee Espresso/Cappuccino Machine. For the money it is a great buy for a good home machine that the average joe can buy to make an average joe.A: The Saeco Maestro is a true pump machine, but it's still pretty weak and has a ticky-tacky little portafilter that doesn't do good crema. Spend $250 and pop for the Aroma (or see if Starbuck's can sell...
Invisible Espresso Machine
Q: The espresso machine is invisible in my game now. My Sims can use it, but I can't see it. The picture in the "Buy" section is a brown question mark, and when the Sims think on their own to use it, it shows up as a question mark in the queue. I think the problem is due to the "Love Espresso" machine I downloaded somewhere on the internet. It shows up in my game, but I don't use it because it catches on fire. I think I overwrote my original espresso when I installed the Love Espresso. I tried looking on...
Ioresult = 5???
Q: From time to time my program tries to Rewrite a read-only file. The IoResult reported is 5. I can find no reference to such a value of IoResult except in a book on UCSD Pascal written by Rodnay Zaks in 1981, which call it "Lost unit". I don't think it is correct now. :-) The only IoResult numbers I see documented are zero and 100..106. Any idea why IoResult number 5 is being reported?A: Oh, no I can't find anything in the Delphi Documentation - but IoResult is a hangover from TP, the values are listed there. For the low values...
Jura Cappuccino Machine
Q: I am still trying to find out if anyone has used or owned a Jura Impresso E55 Cappuccino Machine. If so I would like you impression and what you paid for it. Thank youA: One of the Jura Impressa machines had a good rating in the Stiftung Warentest (a German product tester) test from a couple of years ago. Here's a pointer I found to the results: http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/user/74752/espresso/warentest.html...
Kitchen Appliances No Longer Used
Q: Which kitchen appliance would you say is used the least? The most? We can leave out the obvious which have stood the test of time, toaster, mixer, microwave, etc.. People buy bread machines. Most of the ones I know, no longer use them. Blenders are stored in the attic. George Foreman grille seems to be consistently used. Any thoughts?A: I have an ice-cream machine with an internal refrigeration unit that I never use. It sat in the basement next to the bread machine until I gave the bread machine to my sister. I also have an electric skillet that I haven't used in 20 years. I...
Krupps Espresso Machine - Problem!
Q: My Krupps Espresso machine (it is similar to Krups Mini slightly larger) seems to start seeping water through the coffee while it is heating the water and before it has reached pressure. As a result the first 5 ml or so of the coffee is not only lukewarm but also extracted withiout pressure. I have now resorted to somewhat unorthodox way of making an espresso from the machine - I let the water heat up and let the unpressured water drip away before I deftly put on the coffee containing unit as the sound of the water heating subsides (thats when presumably the pressure starts building)....
Krups Espresso Novo 2300
Q: Is there anyone who has any experience with this machine??? Thinking of buying one... thanks,A: I've had extremely poor luck on getting help on any Krups machine in this NG. I don't know if it is considered too pedestrian, or if most Krups owners don't surf the net. A few years ago I decided to buy my *first* proper home espresso/cappuccino machine (i've since had a few others since then....they just keep getting better all the time, don't they??). Anyway, one of the models I was considering purchasing was made by Krups. I was discussing this with a friend of mine, and they told me that...
Krups "novo" #989 Pump System Espresso/cappuccino Machine
Q: Can anyone give me any information on the quality of the Krups "Novo" #989 Pump System Espresso/Cappuccino Machine? I currently own a steam powered Krups Espresso maker which I like, but I want to switch to a Pump machine for better quality espresso. I have a chance to get a refurbished model of this machine for under $100. The MSRP is $189. Is this a good deal? I am looking for the best machine I can find for under $200. The most important thing is the flavor of the espresso, with good beans of course. Also, if I don't get this...
La Cimbali Not So "super"
Q: Just picked up a La Cimbali S/6 grinder on ebay and was checking the specs at http://www.pasquini.com/lacimbali/grinder_lacimbali.html All I can say is I'm glad it's not the "Special" (at bottom of the page), because that one has "titanium carbonate treated grinding burrs (capable of grinding 6.6 lb of coffee without replacement)A: Wow, great deal, $127 for a $1200 grinder. Kinda gives you hope for eBay. I once saw a Krups il Barista grinder go for that same money and it's not remotely the grinder the Cimbali is, not in the same league at all, like comparing a Yugo to a BMW. Of course, the...
Learning Css
Q: Hi, I wanted to ask what would be the best and easiest way to learn CSS. I would like to learn CSS, so I can use it on my website. ThanksA: I would draw a distinction between "errors" that are beneficial/benign (ie do not negatively affect the rendering of a document in target ua's or may even be necessary/desirable) and those that are "malignant" (can break pages in target ua's). A validator is just a tool...like a shovel, screwdriver, washing machine, etc. Tools can be misused. This was the gist of my post. So far you seem to have fixated on my...
Looking For Japanese Coffee Maker (me Too!)
Q: I'm interested, too! Specifically, I'm curious about the odd variety of coffeemaker that I consistently see in anime such as Kimagure Orange Road and City Hunter .. it appears to have a large bulb of percolating water on top, that filters down through where I presume the grind lies, into a second bulb below. Does anybody out there have a clue what I'm talking about?A: I've seen Japanese glass vacuum coffee makers at the Yaohan Japanese import department store in suburban Chicago (I think Arlington Heights). The store also has a branch in northern New Jersey. The cost was slightly under $100....
Looking To Buy An Espresso Machine
Q: I am in the market for a good but reasonably priced espresso machine would like to spend under $400. Starbucks has an italian model Profi by estro for sell around $370. It has a grinder/dipenser built into the machine . It is pump driven and has a large refillable water reservoir that can be done for multiple brewing. I would appreciate any thoughts to this machine and price or others, especially first hand experience with these machines. Thanks.A: No personal experience but another source for espresso machine is the Caffe Trieste. According to a recent *Comicle* article, the Trieste's roastery sells the La San Marco...
Macchiato
Q: Can anyone actually tell me what a Macchiato coffee is. I recently went to a coffee shop and they had that on their menu, and to risk sounding like an idiot, I though I would ask the world instead. I have done a search on the net for the word and it comes back to me with hundreds of thousands of Cafe menu's that don't actually tell you what it is. I would appreciate anyone that could tell me this.A: Things become whatever the imagination of the entrepreneur makes them when reinvented in the American idium. The traditional Macchiato of first-quarter 20th...
Machine Comparison
Q: I am a newbie, and have been trying to compare the different types of machines that people reccomend. I notice however, that they all have one thing in common. I can't afford them. I am looking for a pump machine in the range of $0-$130. Now that you have almost laughed yourself to death after reading my previous statement, can anyone reccomend a machine in my price range and maybe a place to buy it? I am hoping for something that won't be to difficult to find at stores in the area. Thanks.A: Nothing wrong with having a limited budget. However, if you have...
Magic Fruitcake Vs. Magic Espresso Machine
Q: I usually have my Sim generate a Mrs Crumplebottom with the prude tree and she drinks the espresso....my Sims never even go near it.A: I used to have the body energizer(looks like the virtual reality toy) but lost it when I lost a hard drive. The Sims only used it in place of sleeping. Sure wish someone would point me in the direction it can be found since the site it was on closed. If you are interested in Gaggia machines, be sure and check the auction at www.onsale.com. I have seen them blowing out two different Gaggia models, including the espresso Gaggia for...
Making Cappucino
Q: I'm new to the coffee world, and I just went out and bought myself a cheap espresso/cappucino maker. I made myself some cappucino like the book said, and it was the most disgusting stuff I've ever tasted. What should I put in the cappucino to make it taste GOOD? My goal is the "cappucino machine at a gas station" type of flavor or better. Any help would be greatly appreciated!A: What kind of machine do you have Jared? Even steam toys (steam pressure machines - the $50 dollar kind) can produce acceptable cappuccinos at home... but tell us your machine first, type of beans you're using,...
Metro North Rr Newsletter
Q: The MTA (NY) Metro North publishes an excellent newsletter for commuters. It has interesting stuff about infrastructure improvements, maintenance, new services, and rider courtesy. See: http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/mileposts.pdf This appears to be published monthly, so check back from time to time. There does not seem to be any way to access back issues.A: What the fuck do white people have to be blue about!? Banana Republic ran out of Khakis? The Espresso Machine is jammed? Hootie and The Blowfish are breaking up??! Shit, white people oughtta understand, their job is to GIVE people the blues, not to get them! I didn't know,...

Need Advice On An Espresso Machine
Q: I am looking for a super automatic espresso machine for my kitchen. Quite frankly, I don't know much about the art of espresso making, but really appreciate its taste. After looking through this NG and some websites it appears that prices start from $430-450. I am considering a Gaggia Paros, Saeco Vienna or something alike. Now the questions: 1. Am I in the right category for a decent home espresso machine? 2. What is the difference between Saeco Vienna and Royal Classic? Royal Classic is much heavier, but does it make better espresso? Any additional information and/or advice will be greatly appreciated.A: A good start is to read...
Need Advice On Some High End Home Espresso Machines
Need A Good Coffee Maker
Q: I am looking for a coffee machine. I have a Bunn, and it is very nice, with copper tubing and all. But, it does not have a variable temperature control inside, like some of them do. I am getting 'into' coffee, and I want a machine that I can vary the temperature on. Another Bunn would be great... anyway, I am looking for recommendations for a coffee machine. I have a burr grinder, so I want just the machine. Recommendations?A: If you want a "machine" I'd suggest the Krups Pro Cafe, which is heavily discounted and sells for...
Need Help For Poor Espresso
Q: I am trying to learn how to use my Salton cappuccino machine. It's an entry-level model. I use a Braun blade grinder. I ground the coffee just before brewing, to a fine grind, almost powdery. I use cold tap water run through a built-in water filter. I am using espresso roast coffee from my local gourmet grocery; it's sold in bulk, I don't know where they get it. I put the ground coffee into the holder and tap it on the counter a couple of times to even it out, but do not pack it. I am using...
Need Info-vietnamese Coffee Maker And Brewing Methods
Q: A lady called asking for information about a coffee maker she saw in an Asian restaurant. She said the coffee maker looked like a tall glass. There was something on top of it to put the coffee in. Water was poured over the grounds, the top part was removed, condensed milk was added, and then the mixture was poured over ice. Is this a special coffee maker? She would like to get this coffee maker for a friend's birthday on Aug. 13. Thank you for any help!A: It's a simple Vietnamese coffee filter (stainless steel). They can be had at any Vietnamese grocery...
Need Instructions For Old Electric Espresso Machine
Q: I just found an electric espresso machine at a garage sale that did not come with instructions. The bottom has the following text: "It's a Columbia product ! - Made in Italy". The model number is CXE30 - Watt 550 Volt 110 Also sez: Acc. inox 18/8. Anyone know Italian? I can't find any info on the internet regarding Italian machines made by Columbia. It a 2 piece machine shiny steel machine about 12" tall and 5" wide (top twists off - gaskets look good). Bottom has heating element - where water goes and post where the steel coffee filter rests (bottom of it...
Newbie Question
Q: I would like to buy a cappuccino machine for home use. Budget is $300 to $500 US. primary use is for 2 people with occasional 4. I saw the Starrbuck Athena last week. Does it compare to say a Gaggia? It is on sale for $300 for Xmas. Any other recommendations? Is there an faq? Wher do I find it?A: Only a piece of my response got posted, oddly. I went on to say that people may dispute what the best machine is at each price point, though no one would, I think, debate the high quality of the machines I mentioned (Rancilio Sylvia, Solis SL-70,...
New Grill, First Meal?
Q: For my birthday (not till the 29th) Bob bought me an outdoor, infrared gas grill -- The Char-Broil commercial grade Quantum. It's being delivered tomorrow. I brought home the manual so I could read up on it before it gets here. It will already be fully assembled (big yay!) There are a couple of recipes by Chef Marvin Woods in the back of the manual that look tasty. One is for Jamaican Jerk Pork Tenderloins and the other for a chicken breast salad. But maybe I should choose some sort of easy "getting to know you" recipe like burgers or dogs. Anybody have experience with the infrared...
No High-quality Drip Coffee Makers -- Why ?
Q: I have followed this group for a short time with interest. I figure the folks here might be able to answer this: How come, in a market with $ 250 blenders and $ 300 Kitchen Aid Mixers, $ 3500 Sub-Zero fridges and $ 6000 Dynasty stoves , coffee makers are just plastic, cheap junk ? It seems like one's choice is either a Braun/Mr. Coffee/Krups plastic junk unit or a Bunn commercial unit ( uuuuuuuuugly ) . With all the resurgence of interest in good coffee, why-oh-why can't I buy a beautifully-styled, stainless steel, modular, functional, long-lasting and easy-to-clean coffee maker ?A: There are many...
Nx Literature Used / Not Used
Q: Maybe, NX Literature is an interesting subject for a thread, maybe not. We'll just have to wait and see! : ) So here goes . . . . Northern Exposure's writers used some beautiful and memorable literature. From time to time, members have discussed NX - Music Used / Not Used. I though a few of us might like to share some passages used in the episodes. And, additional passages and quotes that "we thought should have been used." We could even suggest a specific work for selected episodes and scenes. In the final scene of "First Snow," Chris was reciting John Whittaker Watson's "Beautiful Snow" while Earl...
Ot: Thanks!!!
Q: Thanks to a bunch of you who have written already (and I'll still take more for the kitchen category) in response to my request for what you'd like as a gift in the electronics and kitchen categories. I'm writing two holiday gift guides (one is done - the one on electronics), and these will be published in different newspapers all over the country. Unfortunately, I don't know which newspapers! Darn it. ! If any of you see them in your papers, please get in touch with me, cut out the article, and I'll pay you the postage to mail it to me. The second category is...
Oxygenation While Brewing
Q: I was in NYC last week, and had the opportunity to go to Jack's Stir Brew (rated as the best coffee in the U.S. by various surveys). Jack claims that his brewing method, which stirs the grinds and water during brewing and pipes in oxygen, results in a less acidic coffee. The house coffee is a very dark, very strong brew, and it's true that it's very smooth with little acidity. The question is how to do stir brewing and oxygenation at home.A: The vacuum brewers agitate the grounds while brewing. Depending on how high the heat is kept, after the coffee has gone "north", this...
Pavoni Vs. Riviera/gaggia Vs. Saeco
Q: I'm looking to buy a serious espresso/cappuccino machine and I haven't decided whether to get a manual piston maker or an electric pump machine. I really like the romantic aspect of the manual makers but I'm also worried that the increased prep time will make it so much of a chore that I won't use it as much. I also entertain quite a bit and would rather not spend hours making cappuccino every party. Then again I've heard that the manual maker, when used properly and the karma is just right, makes superb espresso. I just recieved specs and a price list from...
Philips Hd 7612 Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker - First Impressions
Q: We've been in the market for a new auto-drip pot for a while. We already have two - but my wife has deemed the old Krups Brewmaster "too slow", and the Braun KF145 (I think that's the model number) has a problem with the filter cone absorbing old rancid coffee odors, and then imparting them to fresh brews. It seems there's no way to clean the filter top to remove the odor (and being a home brewer of beer, I know *lots* of tricks to clean stuff). About five years ago I bought a replacement filter cone from Braun (for about $15, IIRC), and...
Please Recommend A Compact Espresso/cappuccino Machine
Q: Hello to all coffee drinkers out there. I just returned from Barcelona, Spain and feel that I am in desperate need of the espresso/cappuccino machine because the coffee that they make in Barcelona (Caf? con leche) is much better than the one I can buy at the 99% of coffee shops here in New York City. The only way to change the situation is to be able to brew one myself. The problem is, I have a very small kitchen and need an espresso machine that takes as much or may be just a little more space than the regularly sized coffee machine. Would appreciate any suggestions/recommendationsA: Yeah,...
Please Send Me Comments About This News Group!
Q: What group? What are you talking about? Are you talking about THIS newsgroup, sci.med? Mercy, it gets sanded and polished to a satiny sheen every day.A: I'd really, really like it if there were a cappuccino machine here. And maybe some magic-fingers chairs for my aching back and neck. And while you're at it, a manicurist to massage my poor, arthritic, tired fingers. But I'd settle for the cheesecake! Since I am the supplier of the homemade cheesecake over there.... This is what I do. For example, let's take today. I went to the salon and got a...
Priming Instructions For Starbucks Barista Espresso Machine?
Q: Hello All - Is there a kind soul out there who would be willing to post priming instructions for a Starbucks Barista espresso machine?A: Not sure what you mean by priming, but here's my tried and tested method for getting the best out of the machine: 1. Froth or steam the milk first - I know it doesn't say to do this in the manual, but this way, the coffee doesn't oxidise between the time you make it and the time the milk is ready. 2. After steaming the milk, release the pressure in the same way you would clean the steam nozzel. 3. Now...
Problems With Krups Novo
Q: After reading and hearing great reviews of the Krups Novo espresso and cappuccino machine, we went out and purchased one. We enjoyed decent cappuccino for about a week after which the frothing mechanism became quite flakey. It was cheerfully exchanged for a second unit, which did not behave as described in the owner's manual (coffee raced through carefully ground beans, the thermoblock never cleared after brewing espresso, and a sluggish foamer). The third unit was quite a bit noisier than the other two, the water crawled through the grounds and tasted like mud. Even the not so cheerful salesman was impressed as he...
Problem With Krups Espresso Machine
Q: I am experiencing a problem with my espresso machine. The first two cups of espresso come out wonderful with a good amount of crema but the second two cups come out watery. To my knowledge it hasn't always done this and I am looking for ideas as to what is causing it. Some facts: It's a Krups Espresso Mini (Model #963.) I am using a Bosch espresso coffee grinder set to the second smallest grind. The filter holder is set to the "Max" setting. Some ideas: Is it the grind? The filter holder...
Professional Expresso/cappuccino Machine W/ Accessories
Q: I am not selling this (of course) but this is a good deal people and I am sure it won't last long. This is ALMOST their cost of on the machine and goodies. If you want a good unit for 2,500.00 it dose'nt get much better than this for a "like new" system. wesley Sorry to hear your going out of business guys. The market is kind of tough out of Seattle. Will Burgess take anything?A: Great deal here folks. A friend of mine needs cash. YOUR GAIN! FAEMA is closing an Atlanta office. As a result, our showroom demo ...
Recommendations For Espresso Machine
Q: I succesfully got a refund on the Capresso machine. Can anyone recommend an espresso machine between $200-$300 ? and where are the best places to buy such things ? So far, I have good reviews for Gaggia machines and Krups (good but more expensive). Anything else I should consider ?A: If you are interested in Gaggia machines, be sure and check the auction at www.onsale.com. I have seen them blowing out two different Gaggia models, including the espresso Gaggia for under $100. I saw the StarBucks Gaggia machine for $260 (~300 normal) on sale. All this talk about getting the grind right, adjusting for humidity,...
Roll Call - Ppp!
Q: It's funny that we drifted from Moxie to coffee, but in our motorhome we normally carry a 4 cup job. However, for PPPPP I was planning on hijacking one of the extra Mr Coffee makers here at work and packing it up for the trip. The motorhome has an external outlet (you know we have to plug in those tacky lights somewhere) and I'll just set the coffee up outside. So Saturday morning stop by for a cup (bring your own cup!).A: Happy anniversary! Neither of you seems old enough to have been married for so many years. May the spirit...
Rossi Espresso Machine & Grinder-advice Wanted
Q: Over the Weekend I saw a demo of a very interesting espresso machine and grinder made a an Italian company called Rossi. The espresso machine was black enameled aluminum, pump machine and selling for $450. The grinder was also black enameled aluminum, home/industrial hybrid burr grinder (I was told conical burrs but didn't verify), selling for $250. The gentleman demonstrating this machine pulled several excellent cups of espresso with a dark, rich, foamy crema. The grinder seemed to perform most excellent. I've never heard of this brand before and am looking for feedback from anyone who has. where can one get service and parts for these machines? Reliability?A:...
Salton 3-in-1 Coffee Centre
Q: I've just picked up a Salton 3-in-1, my first expresso/cappuccino machine, and am unsure as to whether or not to keep it. I don't know enough about brewing espresso to tell if I am getting what I should (I like the taste of what I've tried). I understand that a sign of good espresso is a golden foam in the carafe, and I am getting this. Some of my concerns are: 1. The manual mentions turning off the machine as soon as the espresso stops flowing. Near the end of brew cycle, I get an odd smell, like rubber being overheated, and I wonder if the unit lacks...
Salton Brand Espresso Machine
Q: Hi, has anyone heard of the Salton Brand of expresso machine. I just saw it this weekend and it seemed cheap for it to be anygood. Any comments Ralph HouseA: You are correct sir! I own a Salton, thought it would be a "good deal" at $45.00, but I was sadly mistaken. As with just about any steam-driven machine, the best it can do is make strong coffee, not real espresso. This has something to do with the temperature and pressure being wrong. Real espresso machines heat the water to a pre-defined temperature (not boiling), then employ a pump to force the...
Search For New Espresso Machine
Q: For the past few weeks I've been hunting for a new espresso machine. Thanks to D. Bogie for his espresso FAQ - nice document! I've been through a few steam machines and my 5 yr old Krups pump machine just died. My old Braun burr grinder is still working fine, but I may splurge for a new Rocky or MDF. I'm narrowing my choices to the Gaggia Classic or Rancilio Silvia. I'm sure they're both great machines from companies with proven track records and I'll probably end up tossing a coin; but I have a few questions: 1) Mail order/Internet vs...
Shopping For An Espresso Machine
Q: This is my first time posting on this newsgroup. I am somewhat new to the espresso community and am interesting in purchasing a home espresso machine. From reviews on the internet it seems that the two best machines on the market are the Gaggia Classic and the Rancilio Silvia. I was hoping some of you guys could let me know the pros and cons of each machine and of the two which one makes the better cup of espresso and will hold up. Thanks.A: Not what you asked, but an obligatory response nonetheless: both are excellent machines, but the differences in them...
Solis Crema Sl 90 Espresso Machine: Questions
Q: I have on loan a Solis Crema SL 90 Espresso Machine and have collected some questions that perhaps some of the experts out there can help me with. I'm most likely going to purchase a new one in the next couple of days. So, 1. Is it o.k. to leave the machine on overnight or for extended periods during the day or should it be turned off after each use? 2. When is repriming required? Each time the machine is turned on? If it's been idle for a few hours regardless of whether it was...
Sometimes They Gotta Spend
Q: The subject of this message reminded me of this question: What do you do when you know a compulsive acquisitionist? I have two relatives, and have had many friends, who literally cannot go "shopping" without spending money. I'm not talking about folks who spend because it makes their lives feel better; I'm talking about people who when shown the latest gadget, take out their wallet. An interesting pattern in these people that I've known is that they've all had well-paying jobs that they no longer have (and in some cases the well=paying jobs just paid for more stuff.) How have people dealt with their loved ones overspending?A: The...
Sometimes, They Just Don't Work Right
Q: In this case, it is one of those cooking toys that I was so pleased to get initially. I picked up one of those Rival Soft Serve Ice Cream Makers. It is the type where you put the bowl in the freezer overnight or a couple days in advanced, and then you put it all together, run the machine and the ice cream forms inside, and then it has an auger to push the soft serve out the bottom. No leaks, the parts go right together and the machine operates as it should. BUT, the bowl just doesn't freeze the ice cream adequately,...
Starbucks Italia Digital Problem
Q: I am trying to repair an italia digital (espresso) coffee maker, after replacing the teflon hoses attached to the steamer (they were melted, probably due to the steam unit operating without liquid), the machine is stuck in a descaling cycle, with display calling for filling the water reservoir, which I have done. After realizing I had to let the machine run out of water (counter intuitive to me), so it would know it is at the end of the descaling solution, the display calls for filling the tank for cleansing, but never gets to the next step. I also tried power cycling the unit with the steam wand...

Stitching Gifts For Us
Q: Share all what needlwork gifts you get this Christmas. I will start: I picked out a quilting rack for Christmas and hopefully a sewing machine when we return finally. For my MIL money gift, I bought the Elizabethan Elegance book by Leon Conrad with all the threads and beads--- Love to hear what you got!!!!A: DH ordered me the 2003 Stephen and Carol Huber sampler calendar (after I sent the webpage to him, of course)...I didn't get 2001 or 2002 (have all the others) so I'm looking forward to it! It just came yesterday...in the nick of time! I think that's it, AFAIK now. Paula...
Suggestions / Espresso Machine?
Q: I would like to purchase a espresso machine for home use this year. I don't have a clue, I only know I like espresso, cappuccino and lattes. Any suggestions would be helpful. My price range is around $500. Something of quality if possible.A: Well, I'm kinda new here too, but I just went through the same process as you in a similar budget mind. Here's what I found: With a budget of $500 and wanting "quality" you can forget about any steam driven machines and concentrate exclusively on pump machines. Actually, for any budget if you want quality this is what you should...
The Cappuccino Machine
Q: We just bought a new Cappuccino machine today. I checked the Owner's intructions. Eh! there are not bilingual anymore. They get bigger. They are now in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, in the 4 languages of America. Rednecks outthere, who were throwing up in the morning seeing french in their Cornflake's box will have heart attacks soon....A: Actually the only ones who will complain are the french language police... the rest of the races seem quite happy sharing society. No pleasing you French..... There is nothing wrong with this. Back in Quebec however I recall setting up a billing system for a shipping company in Montreal. One...
The Next Great Victorian Sci-fi Design Contest: July
Q: The next design contest starts now (are you ready?) and will be judged on Monday July 6th, 2009 at the Wayward around 8pm. For this "Think outside the box" exercise, you will be Creating a Better Mousetrap. Guidelines: - Smaller than a 12"x18"x8" box. - Trap mice, but not rats. (Save the Steamrats!) - Be an operating trap. - Have a safety device to prevent others from being harmed if they handle it while it is "armed". - No animals are to be harmed while displaying your device for judging. As with the last contest, the creators of the objects will judge each others work for one main prize. The viewers choice...
The U.s. Armed Forced - Army Has The Best Benefits
Q: I am Trevor Borseth. This is my account of the recruiting process for the United States Armed forces. I had a lot of meetings with the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. I joined the Army active duty as a 31charlie (radio operator-maintainer.) No other branch of the military can even come close to the benefits that the army has to offer. I haven't gone to basic training yet but I have already received a promotion because I went to college for 2+ years... They pay off school loans that you may have out, up to 65,000 dollars. I received...
Unaugural 7.0 - Trophy Categories
Q: The following trophies will be presented this year: * Longest Distance * Longest Distance (bicycle) * Smallest engine capacity (bicycles excluded) * Greatest Combined Age (bike + rider) * Hard Luck * Most Elaborate Coffee ApparatusA: You might need more than that Zebee. My home espresso machine sucks 1800 Watts. At 12 volts that would be 150 amps. At 15 mins to get up to temp and pressure youre going to need several batteries. I was load testing 48Vdc @ work a few weeks back, two 240Vac 2400w household fan heaters as the load, the 25mm2 mains running from the Batteries to the rectifier were lets just say, a...
Using A 220v Espresso Machine In The Us
Q: I recently moved back to the US from Europe. I am shipping my very nice pump espresso machine back and was wondering if it is possible to us it on the same circuit as the refigerator. I am not sure what the wattage (probably at least 1k) of the machine is (still in transit), but it is too much to resonably use with a step-up transformer. What is the difference in the 220v found in Europe and that used in appliances here in the US? I'm guessing if the 'fridge solution doesn't go then I can get a new transformer put in. Any tips for that? Thanks...
Wanted: Espresso Machine Handle
Q: I have the Starbucks Basic Black, Barista espresso machine. i broke the handle while tightening it - I must of had one too many shots at that point. Does anyone have a similar machine that my be out of service and could part with the handle? Starbucks has them back ordered until September and I'm Jonesing for my morning espressos! Or, can any one reccomend a reasonably priced machine that makes good espresso and foam? The above descibed machine has inconsistent results.A: Yes, handles are easy! I had a older starbuck machine with a broken handle that my brother welded a handle from a potbelly stove...

They have monthly specials. Last month, I bought a Magic Combi at a very good price, and I'm pleased with it....
Water To Use For Espresso Machine
Q: Not so much as a quest for espresso perfection (the water where I live is quite soft and drinkable) but more of a quest to preserve my machine's boiler, I'm looking for suitable water to use for making espresso. I can get 5l bottles of purified (ion-exchange) water from Boots, but they don't always stock it, and I can't rely on a constant supply. Alternatively, I could use mineral water - but for all I know this may be just as bad as tap water - can anyone advise me on what I should look for on the mineral trace? I could also try one of...
Wha's Like Tem? Not Me
Q: http://www.sundayherald.com/25248Wha's Like Them? Not Me When Colin Waters went undercover as an England fan in an Edinburgh bar he expected to have a generally miserable time ... what he didn't expect was to find himself cheering on the Auld Enemy I blame Andrew Wilson myself. When the SNP's economic spokesman said that we Scots should put aside childish rivalry and support England's World Cup campaign, he opened up the question of our thorny relations with the Auld Enemy. On paper, it makes sense. England is our neighbour and from pop to politics, our cultures overlap in innumerable ways. So why shouldn't we support them? Curious to know, I accept...
What Is The Best Thermal Coffee Maker
Q: I'm looking for a good thermal coffee maker and was hoping for a few recommendations on specific units and where to buy at the best price.A: Our SCAA "Gold Cup" tester has tested a few coffee brewers to see which ones come close enough to Gold Cup standards. Most of the problems with coffee makers involve not having hot enough water throughout the brew cycle. You may be aware that coffee makers with hot plates often divert much of the heat capacity to the hot plate rather than the heating of the brewing water to 195-205 degrees. Even those that do heat the water...
What Is This Coffee Maker?
Q: I have an aluminum stovetop coffee maker that my grandfather used to make Cuban coffee. There is a bottom which unscrews from the top. Water is put in the bottom. A basket which holds the coffee sets between the top and bottom. It is assembled and put over medium heat. The water boils(?) and passes up through the coffee once and is stored in the top which is designed for pouring. Does anyone know what this coffee maker is called? Should I use this instead of a drip coffee maker? Is it best for dark roasts?A: Sounds like a stovetop Mokka, fine way to make...
What Is This Machine?
Q: See it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180355424577 I don't see how it works. Could it be a percolator? I suppose someone might put a steam wand on a percolator.A: It's a 3-cup steam-powered espresso (some would insist "moka") maker, the water being heated by an alcohol lamp. Heat causes the pressure to build, forcing the water thru the grounds and ultimately out thru the 3 tubes at the end . . . P.S. Home espresso/moka pots have come in a real variety of shapes and designs. This website has photos of an incredible number of them from the author's own collection: http://caffettiera.altervista.org/collezione.php The one you're inquiring about is shown here: http://caffettiera.altervista.org/caffettiera.php?ID=22...
What's The Best Espresso Machine?
Q: What's the best espresso machine in the under $250 range? I never had espresso before but visited a Starbucks and tried their Espresso Frappuccino and flipped over them! I want to make them at home, plus regular espressos. I read a review by chef Rosemary Furfaro on the web that said pump style machines are the best and come closest to store bought espresso. She said: "This machine won my award for best in the lighter weight pump style category....The cup of espresso was delicious and quite close to caf? quality with golden, thick crema." True? I can't afford much but it sounded from that review that the Cuisinart Coffee Bar...
What To Do When The Espresso Machine Breaks...
Q: Early this week, my faithful Baby Gaggia finally quit on me. I ordered a new machine immediately, it's on the way, but the pressing problem became, what do I do in the meantime? At first I thought it might be interesting not to drink coffee at all, since it's been 25 years since I've gone more than a day or at most two without it. Three caffeine-free days was long enough for *that* experiment :) Going out for coffee first thing in the morning isn't a very appealing option, imho, so clearly I needed to do something at home. Years of making coffee have left me with...
Where To Buy Mid-range Espresso Machine?
Q: I keep hearing about these wonderful espresso machines (Solis, Estro, Pavoni, etc.) but I don't have the first idea where I'd purchase/demo one. My local mall has a Gloria Jean's that only sells a Pavoni ($450!) and a Briel ($200). The department stores have a couple of Krups and Braun machines for sale, as well as Saltons. I have yet to see a Solis or Estro Vapore anywhere. Some have mentioned Starbucks as a source, but there isn't one nearby. I live about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Maybe somebody knows of a specific shop in LA or of a mail-order company that will...
Which Coffee Machine To Buy (in The Uk)
Q: I am seriously thinking about buying a coffee machine (hence I have been lurking for the past few days) but I do not know which one to make. I work in a coffee bar and we use all singing all dancing machines that do everything from grinding the beans to cleaning up after itself (well we do have to put a cleaning tablet in). I don't need that level of automation - I just want good coffee and crema. I am using a cafeteria at the moment and that gives more head than my 30 pound espresso/cappuccino machine! I have heard that the...
Who Makes Starbuck's Barista(tm) Espresso Machine
Q: I have been reading about and looking for a home Espresso machine. A friend of mine has a Starbucks Barista(TM) Espresso Machine and I've tried it and liked it. It feels pretty well made but I do want to know who the actual manufacturer is. It says it's made in Italy. Does anyone know who the actual manufacturer is?A: I bought this machine when they had it on sale,I feel it is worth the money.I have bought other machines and have not been pleased wiih the service.I bought a gaggia and could not belive the horrible service I got .I...
Will Parks Be More Crowded April 24th Through May 1st Due To The Buy X Days, Get X Days Free Promotion?
Q: Starbucks bought Seattle's Best. Baskin-Robbins? If I'm not stepping on corporate toes, what's the connection? Sara-Lee? The new owners? (You can ignore this question if you can't answer the question... :-)) Baskin-Robbins would also bring a "hard" ice-cream into the parks, though other than Downtown Disney, I can't imagine where they'd be able to sell all 31 flavors... Will parks be more crowded April 24th through May 1st due to the Buy X days, get X days free promotion?A: Let's see, where to start. I think everybody has heard of our plans to build Wilderness Junction (not Buffalo Junction). The...
Will The Cappuccino Gaps Be Filled In?
Q: As I continue to program, I notice that there are a lot of gaps between what cappuccino offers, and the cocoa api. What exactly is planned on getting filled in? I noticed that nextKeyView doesn't work, textbox behavior is incomplete, (of course our good friend the tableview.) You guys have done an awesome job, but it's time for me to make a practical decision. Which toolkit do i use? I want to use cappuccino, but I can only do so if there are plans to make the platform a stable complete implementation of the cocoa api. Hope I haven't offended anyone by asking.A: Well maybe what JC want...
