Bf Adding To PPD Risk???
Q: That is contrary to what I have heard.
Besides the bf/pain report, these other reports by Helen Chickering do not give
bf any favorable press! What is UP with this?
A:Just saw a story on the local news fed by NBC's heath reporter, Helen
Chickering. Oddly, this same person wrote the story for NBC about bf reducing
infant pain.
She was talking about risks of depression and PPD in new mom's and said that
pregnant and nursing mom's had a decreased level of DH
A: Those mom's who suffered from depression and PPD also had lower levels of DHA, so nursing moms may be more susceptible. THis is news to me. I thought BF REDUCED the odds of PPD. I can't find the story just yet on the website. It aired just 10 minutes ago. If you have not watched the news yet tonite, see if your NBC affiliate carries the story. The researchers note that 50 to 80 percent of new mothers will have postpartum blues. However, this very common malady is mild and usually goes away on its own, although occasionally, postpartum blues can become postpartum depression. ***The study found that the choice of breast or bottle-feeding had no effect on who became depressed.*** Neither did the presence nor absence of other children or partners.
