Upper Back Pain

Q: I have been riding a ranss bike for a few days now, with their mesh seat. I'm starting to experience some back pain in my upper back area. Could this be from leaning back, but having the head upright?

A: I haAre you new to recumbent riding? Upright riders have the tendency to pull on the bars when they switch over to recumbents, and this, for some riders, can induce back pain. Practice relaxing your upper body until it becomes an automatic habit. Holding the handlebars with just your fingertips can aid in do so. A guy on the Bacchetta forum, called Don. He makes them for the Bacchetta recurve and Euromesh seats, I don't think they fit other seats. If you want one, go to www.bacchettabikes.com and go to the community section then the forum. Ask in the technical forum. ve been getting a bit from my Bacchetta Recurve with headrest. It feels to me like not being able to get my shoulders back because of the arms being outstretched so much. It might be a bit of havig the head forward as the headrest interferes a bit with the helmet. If I remove the helmet and ride I don't get the pain. So I guess I have to bend the rest back or get a different lid as riding without one here isn't an option.

Chiropractors also instruct their patients in proper ergonomics such as good posture and lifting habits to prevent and help problems from occurring. An example of this might include how to sit at the computer properly without slouching and proper use of the keyboard.
