Q: t was just a normal day for Kalenia. Or so the young greenrider thought. She'd gotten Ilyenath fed, then brought her beautiful green down to the lake for a wash and an oiling. Tossing her cloth rag over one shoulder, she looked at her dragon lifemate, who was wallowing in the water with pleasure. ((I like this, Mine. Such a fine day! It ought to be enjoyed!)) Ilyenath told her partner mentally, splashing her wings through the water smoothly. There had been one slight tremble of the earth earlier, but Kale thought nothing of it, since they lived on a rather shakable continent. Calling her dragon to her as she headed towards the side of the weyrbowl, Kalenia was unprepared for the tremor that shook her home. Flailing out, the young woman used her suddenly present lifemate to save herself from falling over. [[Thanks, Ilyenath. No good getting tossed up over a little tremor.]] Getting her feet back under her, Kalenia moved a few more steps before the earth rumbled again. There was a cracking noise about them, and Ilyenath commented in an asinine tone, ((I don't think that was just any tremor, Mine.)) And then things became painful.

Ilyenath told her partner mentally, splashing her wings through the water smoothly. Looking straight up at a large cluster of rather large rocks falling straight towards her and her lifemate, Kalenia's belly seemed to have vanished as her heart sped up to an uneasy, breathless gallop. Her calloused hand on the soft, leathery hide of her green dragon, the young woman was amazed she wasn't panicking at the impending death speeded towards the two of them by gravity's inexorable force. Within a split second of realizing the danger she was in, Kale shoved at her large green, back towards the water, towards clearer skies. [[Mine, get up in the skies! Get over the water and fly!]] When the stunned Ilyenath didn't seem to be moving, her rider screamed, mentally and vocally. "[[GO! NOW! GET UP THERE!]]" Kalenia's voice tore from her throat, her eyes becoming damp with the fear she felt for her lifemate. What would she do if anything were to happen to her dragon, her beloved Ilyenath? Stubbling over her paws, one of the very rare times she was ever ungraceful, Ilyenath shrieked and moved at her beloved's command, heading back towards the rippling lake in the center of the Weyrbowl. ((But, Mine, what about you?)) She asked, worry very clear in her typically calm mental voice. As if afraid to admit it, her mind voice became subdued as she added, ((What if you get hurt?)) Her emerald wings flapped against the air as she moved, cantering towards the waters, towards the skies her lifemate so desperately wanted her to reach. Stretching her elegant neck out before her, Ilyenath shoved off the ground with her powerful hind legs, lifting up and past the falling rubble. She had to barrel roll to get out of the way of the heaviest rocks and still the smaller ones pelted her muscular body, a few puncturing her wings. Crying out in pain, the young green circled above the lake, watching her lifemate's form attempt to flee the falling rubble. Dragon and human were one in their feelings of panic and fear. Kalenia's own body felt the pain as rocks hit Ilyenath, but she continued to try and run from what had probably been a weyr ledge or two. Breathing heavily, her boot heels hit the ground hard, propelling her forward. When she felt she was almost at a safer place on the ground, the twenty year old was sent sprawling by a cluster of small, fist sized stones embedded deeply in the ground of the Weyrbowl. Her hands splayed out before her, scraping roughly into the dirt and gravel of the ground, her chest and chin hit the earth only slightly softer than her hands and knees had. Groaning, Kale rolled over scootching backwards on her rump, using her hands and heels as propulsion, still trying to avoid the falling rocks. And then one landed on her right shin, cracking the bones beneath it. Kalenia screamed, unable to help herself to keep the pain inside. Luckily for her, it had been one of the smaller rocks on the outer edge of the falling cluster. Still, there was no way she was going to be able to stand up again and run towards a safer haven. Piercing her lower lip between her teeth, she shoved at the rock on her leg with bruised and battered palms, gasping and wincing every time the stone nudged against some part of her leg bone that was broken.
