I'm Thinking Of Going In To Buissiness Cad Drafting

Q: I'm thinking of going in to buissiness cad drafting. how hard is it to make a living at it?

A: -Good metaphore - CAD is a TOOL! (sorry about the shouting, but that's important) A chainsaw does a six year old little good and much harm. A faller or a bucker can't get buy without one. There are way too many people out there that take a few classes, and call themselves drafters. Save everyone a lot of grief and learn drafting as a skill and a profession, and include at least two different forms of CAD. Not only will you be better at seperating the sheep from the goats, but you will be a better employee and drafter. -I've seen this question, or some form of it many times in this newsgroup and would like to offer an opinion. Cad drafting is not a business. What you draw using Cad is a business. I happen to draw windows for high rise buildings and make a relatively good living at it, but it's not Cad that makes it a good living...it's the 30 years I've spent as a board draftsman, estimator, and project manager in the window business that makes it so. There are a million Cad draftsmen, and a million window experts...but, there are only of few of both. Learn a trade, become an expert at it, and then you can make a good living Cad drafting same.
