Teen Clothes

Teen clothes have always been a source of conflict between parents and teenagers. Although the styles have changed, teens have always tried to push the envelope as to what are acceptable teen clothes and what are not. Being the mother of a teenager myself, I have struggled with the issue of teen clothes and have come to a few conclusions. Even though fashion is considered a feminine interest, the interest and battle in teen clothes are not gender specific. Arguments may revolve around a certain style of clothes, the particular label they are wearing, the cost of the clothing item. Teen clothes are one of the most expensive of the clothing industry. Teens have no problem parting with their hard earned money in order to sport the latest designer label to fit in. On the flipside, they also have no qualms about forking over a lot of dough just so that they don't look like particular crowds. Another source of arguments about teen clothes is the fashion of the clothing article itself. Teen clothes are designed to look and be comfortable, but don't always look dressed up. Or the teen clothes that are considered dressed up may look a little too conservative or sexy for your teen. Suggesting the conservative side of the dressed up spectrum has sent my teen into frenzy a few too many times. So what do we do about the arguments over teen clothes? In the grand scheme of life, how important is the argument? Personally, I'd rather save my arguing energies for bigger fish like drugs, alcohol and sex. Use the art of compromise, rather than argument.
