Any Hassles For A Non-US Resident Getting A Pre-paid Credit Card?

Q: Does that sound like a good deal? Also, are there any hassles for a non-US resident getting a pre-paid card? Does anyone have in recent experiences using a mobile in the USA? I am considering buying a CDMA phone over there and using Virgin Mobile prepaid which is U...@0.25/min for the first tem minutes per day and then US$0.10 per minute after that. Does that sound like a good deal? Also, are there any hassles for a non-US resident getting a pre-paid card?

A: -GSM coverage (1900MHz) isnt too bad these days, but roaming charges are outrageous. I didnt see any other prepaids as good as Virgin. Others charged extra for "roaming" away from your home area code too. No hassles buying prepaid. Get some kind of calling card for int'l calls too. -Virgin mobile is the best of the US prepaid phones I found in plentiful supply at Target department stores and most CD stores like Sam Goody's. Wal-mart, K mart and numerous other stores have them. Rates are about the best on offer. Keep in mind you pay for incoming calls in the US and they are charged by the full minute. Unlike some US prepay services, busy and non-connected calls are not charged. The party animal, the Kyocera 2119b was only US$60 when I was there in October, with $10 worth of prepaid calls included which can last up to 3 months. It comes with an extra cover as well. I got a local number for Hawaii. You tell them the zip

code where you are going to use the service and they give you a local number. Less info required than getting a prepaid service in Australia.Prepaid cards are everywhere and you can top up with a credit card. I brought my handset back to Aus and will use it next time I go to the states. If it's over 5 months I will probably have to get a new number as the service is disconnected if not toped up with at least $20 every 5 months. I personally like the 1 touch feature that requests your current balance and daily minutes used via a return SMS. There are no roaming fees where-ever you use the service in the USA and coverage is excellent in most cities and major highways.
