Why Are Stupid Leftist Dogooders Proposing More Debtr

Q: Why are stupid leftist do-gooders proposing more debt-relief for corrupt Marxist African governments when everybody knows there was never any possibility of this money being repaid anyway? In spite of all the media hype and Live8 concerts, more charity for Africa will accomplish nothing in reducing poverty and suffering there. It may make economic morons like rock "stars" Bono and Bob Geldof feel good about themselves but the whole operation is futile. More than half a trillion in US dollar aid has already been given to Africa yet the situation in that continent has never been worse. It is Africa's own fault. African leaders, including Nelson Mandela, in the 1960s and '70s after their nations gained their independence were invariably attracted to Marxism and socialism, and this economic and political model failed miserably. It is the former Third World nations like South Korea, Taiwan, China, Chile, Costa Rico, Hong Kong, and India having chosen capitalism that have advanced economically. The socialist countries of Africa with their command economies naturally became corrupt and violent. Here are two excerpts from skeptics on debt relief and more handouts for Africa. The Africa Quandary: Corruption's take is $148 billion. "For decades, Africa's agony has been made worse by plundering politicians who have looted a continent that contains the richest concentrations of precious metals and minerals on earth".--Peter Goodspeed. "Live8 concerts may mean well, but... Sadly we must admit there were no epiphanies on the road to Barrie, Berlin or Hyde Park..." this weekend. A week from now the greatest rolling rock concert in history will be just that--history. Poverty and corruption will still reign in Africa and fingers will snap to the beat once more, and not with Will Smith's three-second death count..."--Bruce Garvey People who are concerned about poverty should try to understand more about its origin--lack of freedom, rule of law and free-market capitalism. They could learn a great deal by reading J.P. O'Rourke's little book, "Eat the Rich". As economist Ludwig von Mises wrote "For the modern world it's capitalism or chaos". An astute observation.

A: As a 10 year old child, over 50 years ago, I well recall being expected to donate money (given to me by my parents for the purpose) "for the starving children of Africa" or being reminded "eat *all* of your dinner, remember the starving children in Africa" The starving in Africa has been going on for over 50 years (from my personal knowledge) and possibly for hundreds of years (or

even thousands?) longer. It had occurred to me (even as a child) that money donated would have been better spent *preventing* over population/starving rather than *supporting* it! One 15 year-old, 50 years ago may well have multiplied to (say) 30 today. Given the preceding hypothetical, "saving" a million people in 1950 means that we (the 'wealthy') have created 30 million starving mouths to feed when that should have been prevented in the that instance, let alone suffering prevented should the matter been have addressed in 1900. I see no effort being made to solve the root of the problem, even today! Applying a "bandaid" to a serious wound is an apt description of a futile pursuit. .
