What To Look For In Diamond Rings
Diamond rings have claimed their place as the ultimate tokens of love. They can be given for, most obviously, wedding engagements, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. While sentimentality has its place, far more than thoughts of love are needed when people plan to purchase diamond rings. They need to know what qualities to look for in order to get the best diamonds for their money. If buyers find out as much as they can before the purchase, they are more likely to receive the better price and higher grade diamond. The Four Cs When choosing diamond rings, one of the most important things to consider is the quality of the stone itself. Knowing how to judge a diamond’s quality makes the customer more confident in choosing the stones for their diamond rings. While making this decision, there are specific criteria to consider. These criteria are commonly called the four Cs, and the four Cs are clarity, color, carat and cut. Diamond Clarity The clarity of the diamond includes the presence or lack of internal flaws. All diamonds are graded based on appearance (the presence or absence of blemishes). The better the clarity, the better the stone. Obviously, the better stones are higher in value. Hence, the best quality diamond rings will have stones with few if any flaws. Diamond Color Diamonds come in a variety of different colors. Diamond rings can have stones of any color depending on personal preference and what is popular. However, it is important to note that diamonds are more valued if they lack color. If even the slightest color is detected, the diamond’s value is lowered. When judging the value of the gemstone, there are two basic categories in regards to color. The first is White Diamonds, which are most often used for engagement rings or other fine jewelry. The second is Fancy Natural Colored Diamonds, which are either faint or rich saturations of various colors and are often used for fashion jewelry. While diamonds that lack color are valued higher, colored diamonds can also be of high value since certain colors are rare. Diamond Carat The carat of a gemstone is its weight. Obviously, diamonds with more carats are lager, and the price will rise in proportion to the size of the stone. Typical diamond rings weigh anywhere from one half carat or less
