Continuing your education after high school can be a real drag, especially if you have just finished spending the first eighteen years of your life in a classroom. Some people just are not cut out for college but are interested in obtaining a degree that can help them gain the skills and qualifications they need to have a successful career. For those people, there is what is called an associate degree. An associate degree is a two-year degree that states that you completed two years of college coursework. There are many two-year colleges that offer these degrees to students who complete the first two years of a regular four-year college course of study. There are a handful of regular four-year colleges that offer associate degrees, but one typically must attend a two-year college to obtain this degree. Associate degrees can be obtained in one of three categories. There are Associate of Science, Associate of Arts and Associate of Applied Science degrees. Associate of Arts degrees are generally awarded to students who plan to continue their higher educations at a regular four-year college. The same is true for the Associate of Science degree. However, the Associate of Applied Science degree is generally intended for students who plan to get jobs right after graduation rather than moving on to another college to finish their bachelor degrees. not ready to commit the next four years to more schooling, you may want to consider attending a two-year college. That way, you can get the first two years of college out of the way before entering the workforce. Once you work for a few years, you will be more aware of your interests and abilities, and then you can go back to school to complete your undergraduate degree. Associate degrees are also helpful for those who have had a hard time getting into regular colleges or universities. Two-years have lower acceptance standards than most four-years schools, making them excellent stepping stones for students who plan to work hard and to eventually get accepted into a four-year college.
