Weight Loss Diets – Tortoise Or Hare, Which One’s For You?
Being overweight in today’s society is no joke. No joke at all! Whether you have 10lb or 100lb to lose, the options in weight loss diets – or rather healthy eating plans is extensive. Every month or so we hear of one fad diet or another that’s supposed to be the ultimate dream for overweight people, but which doesn’t stay around very long. Unfortunately not many of these “fashion” diets stands up to rigorous scrutiny from medical personnel. Many of the diets involve eating vast quantities of similar types of food over two or three days, and then eating normally for the other four or five days. Problem with this is that your body compensates during the “normal” days for what it didn’t get during the days of hard boiled eggs, sardines, bananas, or whatever your fad of choice may be, and so whilst you may take off 4lb in two days on the diet, chances are that you’ll put most, if not all, of it back on during the other days. The plus side of this kind of diet is that you CAN actually lose four or five pounds in two days if you stick rigidly to the plan and that might just what you need to get into that little black dress for the work’s annual dinner-dance. For this kind of payoff, these diets work well – because there’s no long term expectation, no long term ill-effects because it’s only two days and then the diet is forgotten until the next time you need to wear the dress, plus it’s easy to follow – basically you eat exactly what each meal on the list states, nothing more, nothing less. For anyone who needs a more permanent weight loss diet, these diets are not the answer. They don’t provide the body with enough of the essential nutrients and food group portions that it needs to adequately support its system over longer periods of time. There are a number of good weight loss diets which can help you lose weight steadily over longer periods of time – commercial ones such as Weight Watchers, as well as calorie counting with the aid of advice from a qualified nutritionist.
