Wedding Ring Inscriptions ?
Q: What is the custom in Britain as far as wedding ring
engravings/inscriptions are concerned?
And in the U.S.?
A:I can't say what the tradition is in Britain,
but as far as I know, the U.S. thing to do is engrave
Brides/Grooms initials and wedding date. Inscriptions
usually go along the lines of "Forever in Love" or
"Always". I didn't go for that myself, seeing as how I
doubt I'll forget our initials or our date, plus I
wanted something more personalized. Jeff and I play a
little game - when one says "I love you", the other
responds "I love you more". It is then the responsibility
of the other person to advidly deny this in any way
possible, and say they love the other more than that.
I chose to have the inscription "I love YOU more" put
on his ring to remind him that our relationship is based
primarily on love, secondly, on laughter, with a tad bit
of friendly competition thrown in. My advice is to pick
an inscription that means something to you as a couple,
an understanding of what your relationship means. The
more personalized the saying, the more it will be cherished.
