UK Law Degree By Distance Learning

Q: Check this web site for uk law courses leading to a degree - BA or LLB. The good thing is that You can learn at your own convenience by distance learning: http://www.saslawschool.org.uk/

A:The SAS Law School of which university? Do the law degrees recognised in the UK and by the UK professional law societies? The most respectful UK DL law degree programmes are from University of London: http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk SAS Law School on their website claims some connection with a Southern Eastern University in the US. Unfortunately, a quick search did not turn up such a university. Anyone else no of Southern Eastern University? Fine if you want a worthless piece of paper from a bogus university, run from a terraced house in London's docklands by a convicted fraudster who likes to be known as "Dr Daniel Grimaldi" but who operates under least two other aliases and once tried to sell a bundle of blank "diplomas" to a journalist from a Sunday newspaper, but not much use otherwise. When I made enquiries about "Southern Eastern University" (AKA 28 Concorde Drive, London E6) a few years ago on behalf of a friend in the US who was updating his book on distance learning (Dr John Bear, author of Bears Guide which I can thoroughly recommend) "Dr" Grimaldi was serving a prison sentence for interfering with a young (male) "student" and the authorities were about to interview him in connection with a pensions scam. I spoke to SAS at the time, expecting them to be horrified and to terminate their association instantly, but they were evasive and strangely defensive. A little research revealed that they had been involved with at least one other bogus university previously and were in the habit of making misleading claims about the value and acceptance of their own "qualifications" in their correspondence and on their web site. I have published the details on Usenet several times before, most recently under the heading 'Scam alert - National Association

of Paralegals'. A Google search will no doubt throw up my old postings. SAS threatened to sue me for libel at the time, but their knowledge of the law and the value of their courses in it may be judged from the fact that they didn't know that as an (apparently) unincorporated association (of anonymous individuals) they were (1) incapable of being defamed and (2) had no locus standi to sue in any event. "Southern Eastern University", as a US 'mailbox' company does have the requisite locus standi, of course, and has been known to threaten proceedings through "Attorneys Monte Carlo", run from the same terraced house by, wait for it, "Attorney Dr Daniel Grimaldi".
