Treatment Resistant Major Depression, Chronic Treatment Resistant Depression ( Long )
Q: Others alone or combinations of the above. I get a little from Wellbutrin
but I've sunk into a depression again and don't know what to do. I had a
period of 7-8 years symptom free and then about 3 years ago things started
again and I don't feel like I ever fully recovered from the last episode. I
guess you woul say I have moderate depression and lots of anxiety. I can go
to work but it is a huge effoert. I am on vacation right now and try to keep
busy but constantly think how bad i feel.I feel like a caged animal unable
to escape my own negative thoughts. I go throught the day with a " smile "
glued on my face to try to hide how I really feel. I don't know if this
nightmare will ever end. I decide to try talk therapy again starting
Wednesday. I would appreciate any comments, techniques, coping skills
anybody can offer.
A:Hmm, I do see a pattern here of sorts. The only drug you have tried with
significant dopagenic activity is Wellbutrin, and it has helped some.
What kind of dosage of Effexor did you go up to, and what kind of responce
did you get in relieving depression / anxiety? How was it compared to the
SSRI's?
Lamactil probably wont make you more depressed, but it could make you feel
more "flat" in that you may have less highs and lows.
What kind of responce did Lithium, Neurontin, Trileptal give?
Did any of the SSRI's have any effectiveness at all in relieving depression
or anxiety?
Any drug analysis would depend on the answers you give(I have quite a few
ideas), but I can try to give some suggestions.
For a start, I would try taking some omega 3 fatty acid supplements(fish oil
pills). The worst they can do is taste bad and help your health in other
ways. These pills have been shown to be effective for some people where
other things were not. Its worth a shot.
Second, you could try some L-Tyrosine supplements. It may help some with
your depression, but no guarantees. They are very safe though, with no risk
unless you decide to take 40 at a time. Start at 500mg, increase to 2000mg.
Third, taking a multivitamin is always good, and can't hurt. Many people
have unnoticed dietary defiecies due to the processed foods and mcdonalds
culture we live in.
