Just as there are many varieties of rings, promise rings come in many shapes, sizes, and can be set with many stones. While diamonds are not necessary for promise rings, many such rings sport them, although they are small diamonds indeed when compared with the larger diamonds seen in engagement rings. But there are other stones that can be used in promise rings, and it is not even necessary to have the ring set with a stone at all. They are not yet considered a positively sure engagement, just the promise of one in the future. But the giving of a promise ring is a significant thing now.
