The Office Sexual Harassment

Q: what do you think about the office sexual harassment?

A: the point I want to make. Some of the actions of the women in this office definitely match with what I consider sexual harassment; that being, harassment of a sexual nature that is persistent and unwanted. Note that I don't require that the person engaging in the harassment be in a position of power over the person who is a victim of the harassment. Some of the actions of the women in this office don't match with what I consider sexual harassment. As an example, I don't think that a woman labeling all men as assholes is sexual harassment. Nor do I think that a woman telling a sexist joke (of a non-sexual nature) is sexual harassment. I would label these actions "gender harassment". I consider persistent, unwanted attention of a non-sexual nature that is directed at a person based on the person's gender as gender harassment. I am confident that some people will say that gender harassment (using my definition) is less severe and less offensive than sexual harassment. Based on my experiences, I feel that both are offensive and should not be accepted. Both result in a hostile work environment and the victim must fear for his or her well-being (physical, emotional, career, etc.)
