The Family Vacation Package – What You Really Need

The key to finding and booking the perfect family vacation package is planning. Well before you contact a travel agent, make a list of the family’s needs, and a list of the wants. The items under both lists will depend on the dynamics of the family, ages of children, and the activities planned during the vacation. For example, a family of four will probably want two rooms but with an adjoining door. Especially if the children are young, that likely qualifies as a need because of the safety issues. If the activities include an evening or two for the adults to dine alone, visit night clubs or participate in other activities not suitable for the children, a childcare or babysitting service is another need. Be sure that the hotel either has staff members assigned to this duty, or that they can recommend a reputable company to perform the service. Remember to request and check references. A similar service could be needed during the day if the adults plan to do some golfing, snorkeling or surfing. Having a person designated to be sure the children have a good time will ensure the vacation is a total success. Consider the proximity to

local attractions that you plan to attend during your vacation. Ask about transportation to and from those attractions. Most hotels will provide shuttle service, but don’t assume this to be true. While a pool, spa, and other hotel amenities might be added benefits, carefully consider whether they are necessities or merely wants. If the days are to be filled with activities, a pool might go unused for the entire trip. By the time you contact a vacation planning company or travel service, you should have a good idea of the amenities that are important to your family. By providing your travel company with a list of those up front, you’ll get a more accurate and complete package price.
