The Current State Of The Solar Car
The solar car is currently used primarily in races. The solar car most often seen seats one or two people, and is only drivable during the day. This is the main reason why the solar car is not ready to be marketed and used as a mode of everyday transportation. The way in which the solar car uses the energy from the sun is not terribly efficient and it cannot store energy for long periods of time. People who participate in these races using a solar car spend many years and many hours developing the technology that goes into a solar car. If the solar car can only be used for this purpose you may be wondering why so much time and energy is spent on developing them. As our stores of fossil fuels are used up and energy becomes limited and much more expensive we need to begin to come up with new ways to power our way of life. Most people are used to driving a car to get around. If we run out of oil how can people continue to do this? The solar car is one answer. In the future if we can develop solar car technology to rival that of current vehicle capabilities we can easily do the switch over to the solar car. The environment is a key factor in this shift in thinking as well. Emissions from vehicles reek all sorts of havoc on our environment. We must make a change for the better now before it is too late. The solar car is a great place to start.
