Teen Depression As Well As Mom's

Q: Does anyone have help out there for me? How can a parent help a depressed 16 yr old HS senior who is also depressed? We're both on Zoloft. One day I'm down then my daughter gets down. She continues that & then I get depressed. I find it hard to help anyone. What about disciplining a depressed teen? What are the rules? Then I have to put up with surliness. Everything seems such a chore. It's too much. College financial aid forms will be coming up soon. My husband's Birthday is next week. Then Thanksgiving. Then I'm too fat. Can 2 depressed people build a relationship? How about 3? My husband is depressed also but won't see the Dr. It's too much at times. Expenses..

A:I don't know, but hang in there. You must, must, dixcipling your teen the same as you would if she were not depressed. She needs guidlines, and rules let her know that you care about her welfare. Don't let her think she can use her depressed state as an excuse for bad behavior, but at the same time you can be understanding

of her situation and feelings....a thing a lot of mom's can't do. There was an article in a woman's mag about family depression, and how it made them closer because they could undertand what each other was going through. Wow, that's tough that your husband has probs too and won't get help. What do you do when you say "life sucks" and he says "yeah I know" ?? I hope you guys can lift each other up. But again, at least you each have someone who echos your own feelings...understands. Yikes! I'm a sunshine spreader today, and I don't know what has gotten into me! My prozac is gone, and I must be getting figgety and nosey into other peoples business :-)
