A:the symptoms may be caused by something else, don't jump to conclusions too quickly. Especially if this is something recient and undiagnosed. For example I'm not manic-depressive, I have chronic insomnia that has steadily worsened over the years. Not the same as what your going through, but it does sometimes cause extreme mood swings. (no temper fortunately) My brother has always had a sharp temper. He's quit drinking becouse that made it worse and has gradually learned to deal with it. How do you know for sure you are manic depressive? To the best of my knowledge there is only one way to get a diagnosis and that is to see psychiatrist. I was not sure after reading your post if you have ever seen professional mental health care professionals. Even you have you should seek other opinions. According to the NIMH it takes an average of eight years and three different psychiatrist in order for an accurate diagnosis of Affective Disorder Bipolar Depression to be made.....the point being that Bipolar depression is often misdiagnosed. I would not be in any rush to get labeled, labels have a way of sticking. Seek out professional help, put aside any personal beliefs and get help. If you are manic depressive there are alternatives to way you have been feeling about yourself and your sense of being overwhelmed...medications can and do help. No. It takes this

long on average for a correct DX of bipolar to be made, after years of incorrect DXs. A great deal of suffering takes place because of the failure to DX bipolar in a more timely fashion. One of the foremost authorities on bipolar, Dr. Akiskal, maintains that any one who is depressed should be considered to be bipolar until it can be ruled out. This makes a lot more sense than treating everyone as if they were unipolar until that treatment must be admitted to be a failure. Such inappropriate treatment, the use of anti depressants without a mood stabilizer, causes great harm to bipolars, who then have a much more severe illness by the time they finally are properly DXed.
