Specific Questions About Your Law School...

Q: I am a senior at Smith College who is facing the difficult task of deciding between law schools. I have several questions about the schools I am considering which cannot be answered by the glossy catalogues that were designed to entice me. I know that many of you are fond of giving advice, and I appreciate your honesty. I am writing to ask that you answer my questions to the best of your ability without your egos getting in the way. Please no flames or snide remarks that will do nothing to help me or others in my situation. I am not looking for the general "Go to the best school you get into" answer because I know that. I am simply trying to figure out what the best law school is for *me*. (Comparisons between law schools of different levels will not be very useful. I don't need to hear that Yale is better than Brooklyn. But if you can make a specific comparison between, say, the faculty or libraries at Georgetown and Cornell, that would be helpful.)

A:BU does have grad dorm housing. Apply early, and I don't reccomend it. Very close to school though. The University rents out about 900 apartments to grad students; most are decent, they are fairly close to school, and the prices are OK. Boston rents are high in general. Boston has all sorts of housing from fairly cheap located in bad areas to very expensive. 1. Bagel stand operated by the SB

A: Open in the morning. Cheap and decent. 2. Law school cart operated by university. Open after (1) closes. Serves bagels, pre-made sandwiches, salads, coffee etc. Eat in pinch. 3. University Union. Located 300 feet from the law school. Seats 1500. Cash dining. Food court. Buger King, Pizza Hut, D'Angelo's, Roast Chicken/Turkey place, very large salad bar, steam table place, vegetarian place. A bit overpriced but not bad. 4. Undergrad dorms. Not cheap, $8.50 for dinner but its all you can eat. Can be quite good. Check the menu in advance. Closest 2 blocks away. 5. University pub. 2 blocks from law school. Owned and operated by univeristy, must be from BU and be over 21 to enter, they really check id. A law school hang up. Upon till midnight M-F. Good deli sandwhichs. All sorts of beer..... Not owned by BU and accross the street from law school. Goeman. Japenase noodle shop. Expresso Royale Cafe. Seats around

200. Within three blocks: Taco Bell, good BU owned sandwhich shop, and a variety of other things. You will not starve at BU law... The area is pretty good. The T-Stop (subway) is directly in front of the law school. The law school is exactly in the middle of campus; we are next to the main library and the union. Supermarket shopping is OK. Movies are not cheap anywhere in Boston. Boston has lots to do and the T is very convienent. BU is a large place, and the area around the law school is basically BU. The actual campus is not the most interesting place; not much of a tourest trap. Safety is not a problem. Its urban, but about as safe as urban can be.
