Special Sections: Great Small Business Advertising

Local newspapers are still a leading method of small business advertising. If you provide products or services in your local area, you will want to reach a local target audience. Newspapers are delivered periodically--daily, weekly or other--and cover a wide readership. A particularly effective method of small business advertising is specialty inserts in your local newspaper. Many newspapers include special inserts on a seasonal, monthly, weekly, bi-weekly or other basis. For example, a weekly "Weekend" insert may contain information and articles about special events or seasonal activities. A monthly insert may contain calendar information for that month. A seasonal insert may contain information about special events, places and things pertaining to the season and its holidays. These inserts usually contain a great deal of space for small business advertising. Some specialty inserts also allow for editorial content prepared either by the newspaper's advertising department or by the business purchasing the advertising space.

This way you are able to create content such as reviews of your products or services, giving more information than can be included in a standard advertisement. Editorial advertisement content is an effective method of small business advertising. Be sure to ask your newspaper's sales representative about editorial availability. To learn about the inserts available in your local newspaper, look in the weekend issues. Usually specialty inserts are included in the weekend editions. Your newspaper's advertising department will have sales representatives whose job it is to inform you of available advertising specials and special sections, so be sure to inquire with the advertising department.
