South Texas College Of Law

Q: I am considering South Texas CL, but would like some advice. How is the school viewed in the region? Does it have a positive reputation?

A: I understand that South Texas has one of the best reputations nationwide for its moot court program. The school has a huge emphasis on it. In fact, I have been told that STCL's moot court budget is about $250,000 annually. They enter 20 competitions a year nationwide and win, on the average, about 16 of them. Surely I can learn from the internet, from the used books I buy & from those I get on interlibrary loan, etc. I can learn from sitting in court rooms, listening & observing. However, I do need someone to answer my legal questions. I can't learn everything on my own. So far, no lawyers will help. In Texas, it's illegal for anyone but a lawyer to answer legal questions, & the lawyers here will Not answer them. [The lawyers & judges even tried to make self-help law books (Nolo Press) illegal in Texas.]
