Smu Mba, MBA - Worth It?

Q: I work in Marketing Automation and know few MBA's who do not know the difference between inferred and direct response. What is more ironical is that they are Marketing Managers in Internet Marketing teams. In the last 2 years I've come to realize that business related jobs need only one thing "Bol Bachan". Very few strike the Univ ranking and gray matter balance. If you are one of those who think that knowledge will help you transition into business then you are not made for business or MBA related jobs. Social networking, the art of conversation, etc are key to being successful after an MB

A: Sometimes race does play a role too. Of course if you take up desk jobs like Financial Modeler or Marketing Analytics then it's a different story. That according to me is not career change. It is a programming language change. No flames plz

A:How about MBA from ICFAI (they have centers in SFO). They even offer CPA kind of equivalent courses. (One of friend had done his diploma in basic finance few years ago and said the courses are of real quality) #17 could you explain the $300k figure? that sounds really off the mark unless you're acccounting lost income into the cost as well. I was thinking more like $100-130k (mostly tuition). Cost of living can be covered by taking up a part-time job alongside a full-time program. Needless to say i'm prepared to downgrade my lifestyle as well until i get done with the MB

A: #1: If you are thinking of an MBA then I must say that YOU SHOULD DO IT ! specially if you want to change careers or move up the management chain... Now that being said, the question is full time or part time.... That would depend on your personal situation, if you can forego the next two years in your income, take a loan to fund your education for the

next two years and still pay for living expenses etc .. I think that the cost would be in excess of $300K (conservatively), now can you make that kind of money in two years after you graduate ? Probably NOT ! But would the MBA pay for itself over a 5 year timeframe ? Absolutely !!! I did a part time from a top 15 school - am I happy with it ABSOLUTELY !! If I can go back in time, would I do it ? Perhaps I would think about a Full time program (but then the financial sitation from the time I did it to the time now has changed), given the same constraints that I had back then I would still do a part time from a top 20 school ! That is a judgement that ONLY you can make ! Hope it helps. -a
