diagnosis I once got from a doctor for *situational depression*.
It was right after I was raped and I needed time off from *life*
to recover. And I needed money. So the doctor gave me a
diagnosis of *situational depression*

You are making an erroneous distinction. Major depression is diagnosed
based on the following criteria. Life experience is irrelevant to the
diagnosis (unless you are talking about a normal grief reaction).
