Sexual Harassment In The Workplace
Q: I am writing an article on sexual harassment in the workplace. I
would like to hear from men who have experienced
harassment - were you forced to leave your job e.g or did you take
your employer to tribunal etc.
A: A few years ago, this woman that I work with kept groping and grabbing me. She would come into my private off, close the door, back me into a corner, and keep me from leaving while he rubbed her breasts and butt against me. She'd try to drag me into empty offiice while I was walking down the hall. Basically, she was horny as an alley cat and went after me every chance she got. It pushed her away, told her to stop, threatened to file charges, even threatened to kick her ass. Nothing worked. This went on for about two years (off and on) to the amusement of most of the men AND women where I worked. I was reluctant to make a formal complaint because I knew it wouldn't do much good. You see, victims are only encouraged to come forward with this kind of information if they are of the 'right' sex. Finally, it was getting impossible. She would rub her ass against my groin in front of my entire staff, and block my office door so I couldn't get around her. With no other options, I went to her supervisor and complained. Her supervisor accused me of 'enabling' her behaviour - IOW, blamed me. Three weeks later, she filed a blatantly retaliatory SH charge against me. for Her words were: "You know how John complained about me? Well he's been looking at me funny and telling me to settle down in the hallways, and I want it stopped. I want to file a SH charge". You'd have thought I killed someone.
