San Diego Criminal Attorney

Q: The Chargers have built a great franchise and spending the money and signing good players to long term contracts shows that they are committed to putting a good product on the field. But even in the bad years we were proud of our team. The Qualcomm site is the perfect location. Plenty of room, trolley service, freeway access from every direction, and it's in our city. Why give this up just so the city can sell it off to the fattest developer to balance the books? The developer will build another mall or another 5000 condos. Do we really want to turn that land into another mall or condo development on Friars road that will look like Orange County in a few years? Has anybody on the city council noticed how quiet it is on the streets when the Chargers are playing?

A: In researching my book on strip clubs, I've had to do some poking around in how city law enforcement works and, to a lesser degree, the role in the city attorney's offices in all of that. From where I sit, Aguirre's big problem is his constant demand for the spotlight and his attempts to overreach and operate outside his job description and the mandate provided by the city charter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's already been bitch-slapped in public by a couple of judges over this. If you think he's the guy for the job, feel free to support his reelection, but as long as I live within San Diego (which may not be for

much longer, as I'm thinking of relocating to RB), I will support any reasonable candidate who runs against him. On the Chargers front (to bring it back to topic), in at least two cases that I'm aware of, unofficial (read: non public) word is that two major developers rebuffed the Chargers when approached as development partners on the Q project a few years back because they said (and this is paraphrased) they didn't want to try to do business in a city where the city attorney was a loose cannon. If the city council and ALL the city officers weren't on board, no one was going to partner up with the Chargers. That part, at least, seems to have proven to be the case.
