Retirement Calculator – How Much Will Your Retirement Cost?
A retirement calculator is one way for you to help decide whether you are saving enough for your retirement. There are dozens of online calculators available at no charge. All you do is enter a few figures – some that are fairly easy to calculate but others that are much more difficult. After you fill in the required information, the calculator will tell you how much you need to have saved for retirement. Among the required information for the retirement calculator is the amount you plan to spend each year – your annual income needed. Remember that this amount doesn’t include any additional money you’ll be receiving from a retirement plan or Social Security. It’s only the amount that you hope to withdraw each year from your retirement account. Then you enter the number of years that you have until you retire. While both of these pieces of information are fairly easy to determine, the questions get more difficult to answer. The next question is how long you expect to live after retirement. Impossible to calculate, but you can go with some statistics. Average lifespan of those in your family is a good place to start along with age statistics in your area (available from the Census Bureau). Subtracting for those habits that shorten life (such as smoking) and adding for those healthy habits (such as regular exercise) will at least give you a figure to use for your retirement calculator.
