Remembering Friends With Friendship Bracelets
It's a craft that just doesn't seem to get old. Making and/or exchanging friendship bracelets is just as popular today as it has been in decades past. Friendship bracelets may seem like a simple gesture, but for the people who exchange them, the meaning is significant. Giving friendship bracelets is not usually something done lightly, as the giver wants the receiver to wear them to remember him or her. Most friendship bracelets are made of six strands of floss or yard. These six strands represent each letter in the word FRIEND. Multi-colored bracelets are most common for two reasons: for those who make friendship bracelets, it's easier to keep track of all the threads when weaving them and secondly, they just look nicer! Some kids think that making friendship bracelets is simply braiding the strands, but this really can not be done with six strings. So, the process of creating friendship bracelets according to the "tradition" is not as simple as many thing. The best way to learn how to make friendship bracelets is to watch someone do it-and there's at least one kid in a school who knows how to do it. However, if you're not lucky enough to know someone out there who can make friendship bracelets, there are books available and websites like the Peace Pal Project
