Q: We're house-hunting, just now getting beyond the window shopping phase. One interesting thing we've learned is that some services that one agency wants to put strings on are available free from another, so it pays to shop around. For example, we wanted to receive email notification when houses that fit our search criteria came up in the listings. No problem, said one agency, and signed us right up. I get about a dozen emails a day from them, as the properties turn over. Another agency wanted to have us sign an agreement obligating us to buy only from them, if they emailed us listings.

A: Ok, technically yes. But you would have to understand the nature of Jim before you make a hasty judgment. Like everyone in the real estate business the way he earns money is related to the sales/purchases he assists with. But because he is under no obligation to the seller he works exclusively

for the buyer. I used him to buy the home I used own and I think he did everything possible to get a fair price for me. So when I bought my condo I went back to him and he helped me get a good price as well. I have worked with traditional agents in the past to buy homes and I was never really satisfied that they had my interests in mind. I never doubted that with Jim because his whole attitude is different. I even felt that he went out of his way several times to make the experience easier for me. In the end, everyone's experience is based on their own circumstances and what they want, but I think he is better then average when it comes to working for the buyer.
