Ralph Lauren Vs. Harvard Law School???

Q: I really like fashion especially Ralph Lauren. However, I don't know much about him? Can anybody help me??

A: IT seems that Ralph Lauren, whose fashions are so beloved of graying yuppies the world over, has got himself in a fight with a very Eastern establishment, the Harvard University Law School. I understand Harvard's trademark protectors just sent Lauren a cease-and-desist letter over his use of the law school's crest on upmarket ties being sold in his far-flung boutiques. Lauren's people didn't get back to me yesterday, but it is likely the Bronx-born, City College night-schooler will have to withdraw from sale the neckwear featuring Harvard's crest and three symbolic bushels of wheat. That law-school logo, in fact, has been licensed to Michael LaHart, an up-and-comingdesigner who says he has

an exclusive deal with Harvard to use the university's symbols on his fashion creations. LaHart (whose ties have gone around the necks of everyone from Bill Clinton to Bill Gates) debuted his Harvard line through Neiman Marcus this season. If and when Lauren does call, I really want to ask him about the wisdom of allegedly ripping off the logo of an institution that prides itself on turning out America's most ferocious and patrician litigators. It could be, of course, that Ralph was swayed by nostalgia. He got his start as a neckwear designer after working as a salesman on the road for the Boston firm of Rivets, which specialized in the manufacture of old school ties.
