Problem Of Domain Hosted CRM Application-Need Solutions
Q: I am one of the Microsoft events technical support guys; we are thinking of implementing the CRM solution for our sales team; I am very new to the application so forgive me if i seem to ask the most ridiculous questions. Here are my questions: 1. We are currently in the Redmond domain at Microsoft, and I know that the CRM cannot be installed on any of Microsoft's domains (Redmond ..etc). How do we go about creating a new domain to use for our team? 2. If we install the CRM application on a windows 2003 machine, is it possible to install the CRM, IIS and SQL2000 all on one machine (2 drives), as opposed to using several machines? Or must we use the Windows small business server if we plan to deploy a single installation model? (we have limited resources and the CRM is for a small group) 3. Our Exchange servers are on the Redmond domain, if we implement the Exchange Email interfacing, do we have to install the router on all the Exchange machines? also since the CRM application will be in a different domain, is there a problem of trust between the Redmond domain hosted Exchange servers and our custom domain hosted CRM application?
A: 1 - Given permission you can create your own domain in its own forest. This will have no trusts in place to existing Microsoft domains so will be safe. You would then create accounts for all your users. When someone on the Microsoft domain connects to CRM on your CRM domain they will get a login and at that point they can connect with their CRM domain credentials. Note that you should work with Microsoft IT services before attemping anything like this. 2 - The only supported single server configuration is small business server. As you will have your own domain (potentially) then you may want to take the small business server route although keep in mind you can install the domain controller, IIS and SQL and CRM all on one box.
