Pre-MBA Courses

Q: Looking for your suggestions or recommendations: Some universities offer a set of pre-MBA courses, for people without a business background. They usually consist of 4 courses. Examples: CSUDH- 8 graduate credits; Amber U- 12 undergraduate credits. They appear to be equal to a BA in business administration. Does anyone recommend a set of pre-MBA courses? Quality? Expense? Time?(CSUDH are 6 wks)

A:The requirements for pre-MBA courses will differ from school to school. Some schools have a time limit on how old the undergrad courses can be if you did take them. There are a few courses that will likely be required, or at the very least will give you a "leg up" on the competition if you took. These include: Economics (macro and micro) Accounting Finance Statistics Basic Managlement--- I mean Management Basic Marketing One area that may or may not be required in a particular school would be a basic Global Business course. Whether it is needed or not, I would suggest you take one sometime during or after your MB

A: If you have a MBA course which is particularly difficult for you...1) give yourself more time to take the course 2) work harder

3) get appropriate supplemental texts, etc., to help fill in the gaps (however, you don't need to go through the time and expense of enrolling in a formal pre-MBA course). Some schools require the person to have some basic courses under their belt (or be able to test out of them) before they finish their MB

A: Not all schools, granted, but some. SJSU, where I received my MBA, had at one time up to 6 required foundation courses. These could be met by either taking an equivalent course within 5 years of the MBA, taking the foundation course during the MBA, or testing out of the course. They have since streamlined this considerably.
